Clare and everyone. It is possible that the marriage record of a couple will not appear on the family search or other lists. My parents do not. I know when, where and have pictures of their wedding in 1930. Also knew and talked about it with various relatives who were at the wedding and reception. Have even seen the wedding certificate. Have not been able to find them in the various lists. Why I am not certain. It in a way makes you smile. Their parents and siblings are on the lists. Even their aunts and uncles and one set of great grandparents . Helen, I totally agree. My parents were married in Pittsburgh in 1937. They aren't on the website either. I had gotten their record from Allegheny County several years ago. Good motto: When one thing fails, try, try and try again. The information is usally waiting for us somewhere. ~Bev in Calif. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Helen Owens" <teacher1954@hotmail.com> To: <paallegh@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 01, 2014 4:42 PM Subject: Re: [ALL] Marriage records > Clare and everyone. > It is possible that the marriage record of a couple will not appear on the > family search or other lists. Right, Helen, about FamilySearch...but I asked if she had contacted the court house. If the marriage took place there, it should have been recorded there. Mary Ann, in 1898, which is when you said your ancestors married, the counties in Pennsylvania are as they are today since the last change was in 1878. http://www.mapofus.org/pennsylvania/ Clare
Just adding my two cents on this subject . . . I've noticed almost none of my family marriages are listed at FamilySearch either, and the bulk of them were united in a Catholic church in Sharpsburg, PA, however, some marriages that were performed outside the church by J.P's or similar, are listed. So my assumption is that the church (or Diocese) did NOT submit the marital data to the county. The data is available via the Diocese, for a fee. This may, or may not, be specific to certain Catholic parishes . . . but in my case it appears to be so.
