Beverly, I was lucky also in getting my g grandfather's Civil War records after years of search. Spelling was wrong. And to anyone...how do you find a marriage record by a JP. I have tried various court houses in my vicinity with no luck. Wouldn't they be recorded the same way as with a minister or priest? And they definitely did not marry in the Catholic Church knowing my grandfather. -----Original Message----- From: suzanne m. johnston Sent: Thursday, January 02, 2014 8:54 PM To: paallegh@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ALL] Marriage records For those of you looking for marriage records for Allegheny County on familysearch: The records from about 1904 through the mid-1903s were not microfilmed by the LDS and are therefore NOT digitized on familysearch. FamilySearch doesn't explain that these records are not there. If you are looking for a marriage during those years, you'll have to contact the marriage license bureau in Pittsburgh for a search and a copy. Occasionally you'll see a record from 1905 or 1906, but if you examine carefully, you'll see that it's from another county and the indexing put it in the wrong county. Mary Ann, I think the early JP's didn't record anything. Mine were in 1867 and I doubt there is a record anywhere. I also think my gr. grandmother was Catholic and he was not so that's why they went from Allegheny to Lawrence Co. to get married. Kind of like people from the Pittsburgh area going to Wheeling or Winchester later.
