    3. When I googled "pleasant valley" +"euphonious" in google books, I got a hit for a book called Recollections of 70 years & historical gleanings of Allegheny, Pa., by a John E. Parke, published 1886, in case anybody is interested. The area is in what one might call a "hollow", and today, many of the older homes have been destroyed to make room for a roadway, however, several remain. The reference to "Mail" appears to me to indicate the comment(s) were sent to them via US Mail and not from a publication of that name. 3. I would imagine that there were many "hollows" throughout Allegheny County that might have been labeled 'Pleasant Valley." That said, the reference to it being within "the city" in 1868 would lead me to think it was either in Pittsburgh or Allegheny City. The section of Allegheny City that was called Pleasant Valley was the "hollow that is presently called the Charles Street Valley. It was an area served by one of the early trolley lines called Federal Street and Pleasant Valley RR. It connected Brighton Road (formerly the toll road called the New Brighton Road ie. the road to New Brighton on the Ohio) with the Perrysville Road, now called Perrysville Ave. The lowr section of the present Charles Street was Taggart Street. Taggart was a tanner and there was probably some nasty oders associated with that business. The tolley connected , whet we North Siders called PV with that part of Perrysville Ave that was the campus of the Western University od PA (Pitt) before it moved to Oakland. "Peasant" must have been a moniker of the areas romantic rural past where cows grazed rather than where they were slaughtered. > From: NKARNS@travelers.com > To: paallegh@rootsweb.com > Date: Wed, 4 May 2011 15:14:57 -0400 > Subject: Re: [ALL] Pleasant Valley in Allegheny Co > > When I googled "pleasant valley" +"euphonious" in google books, I got > a hit for a book called Recollections of 70 years & historical gleanings > of Allegheny, Pa., by a John E.
