The article April 16, 1905 states it is from the quarter sessions court. The hearing was slated for April 29th 1905. I was wondering if the records of the quarter sessions court are available. It is my understanding if bodies were moved there was an accounting of those bodies. This was for another cemetery in Tennessee. Are those records available? There have been other cemeteries that have been moved. I've hit a brick wall with my Cavanagh/Cavanaugh families in the 1850's. I wonder if one of those moved cemeteries has my Mary Cavanaugh in it. Its in the process of looking. I would like very much if you could scan and send me the April 16, 1905 article if possible to support my request for them to search. In the mean time. On or about April 27, 1927 the remain bodies (about150 I have been told) were lifted and re-interred in Southside Cemetery in a common grave. Norm Meinert has two pictures on his website of the Memorial Stones for those re-buried. A list did exist in a book in the Southside Cemetery of those re-interred. It should still be there. I am hoping that the present staff will look for it and put it on disc. Now it is possible that your Mary Cavanaugh was moved privately. These are the Cavanaugh/Cavnaugh I found in Southside that headstones Mary might be there without a headstone also. Carol's post is quite an interesting one, as I am not as baffled or confused as I have been about this topic. Years ago I visited the Presbyterian Historical Society in Philadelphia, not knowing that I needed to know the name of the church they attended. I had done some work trying to pin-point where they were members, but to no avail. Dorothy Braden's book is a good source, but I think I need to get back to our local LDS/FHC and order more films. Marybeth =============================================================== From: carol battin <pagenie@suddenlink.net> Subject: [ALL] Interesting! 1st and 2nd Presbyterians - Allegheny City To: PA-ALLEGH <PAALLEGH-L@rootsweb.com> While searching for records for these churches in the FamilySearch Library Catalog, I came across the following film description. It applies to both of the churches and is EXACTLY the same. Church was organized in 1837 as First Associate Presbyterian Church of Allegheny; in 1858 it became a United Presbyterian Church and in 1877 it became Allegheny Second United Presbyterian Church located on Stockton Ave., North Side, Pittsburgh. In 1909 the Allegheny 9th United Presbyterian Church merged with the Second, in 1930 the Allegheny 10th United Presbyterian Church merged with it, and in 1943 the Allegheny 5th merged with it, this time to become the Allegheny 2nd-5th United Presbyterian Church and located on Brighton Rd, North Side, Pittsburgh. In 1963 the name was changed to Faith United Presbyterian Church. In 1971 Faith merged with Melrose United Presbyterian Church to become the Pleasant Valley Community United Presbyterian Church which in 1980 was disorganized. ------------------------------ ------------------------------ Message: 6 Date: Tue, 15 Feb 2011 22:59:41 -0500 From: Larry Thompson <lt0168@epix.net> Subject: Re: [ALL] those confusing Presbyterian churches ... Sometimes they are left behind with the church, but often they take their records with them. Sometimes they get donated to the Presbyterian Historic Society. But sometimes they get lost. For example a few years back the WPGS published the records of an the Pastor for a Bull Creek and Deer Creek Presbyterian minister. Luckily one of my ancestors was in there, which gave me his wifes maiden name.
