    3. I know that my family would not be on the 1880 census - but I looked there to see if I could find John, Mary, or Edna Marguerite (4 year old who died) Hermansdoerfer.  --- On Sun, 2/27/11, Larry Thompson <lt0168@epix.net> wrote: From: Larry Thompson <lt0168@epix.net> Subject: Re: [ALL] Advise please To: paallegh@rootsweb.com Date: Sunday, February 27, 2011, 5:10 PM Sandy: If they didn't come to the US until 1885 they wouldn't be on the 1880 census. Instead, I found the death of a 4 year old, who has the same last name. I know nothing about this family but it seems there is a good chance they are related to my family. The name is not common  - Hermansdoerfer. I have looked on Ancestry, but do not find the family in the 1880 census, and most of the 1890 census was lost in a fire. I have asked my mother, aunt, and their cousins and they have never heard of these people. Would anyone have any more ideas or suggestions of places to search to figure out if there is a link to these other Hermansdoerfer's? My greatgrandfather arrived in the US in 1885 from Bavaria and owned a butcher shop on Spring Garden Avenue, attended St. John's Lutheran Church, and is buried in St. John's Cemetery. He had 3 sisters and 1 brother (who never came to the US) as far as I know. With such an uncommon last name, it >   seems that there must be a relationship, but I don't know where else to go from here.
