John et al: The root of my query is that I have a John Forrester and wife that I do not have a death date on. He owned a house at Robinson and Bank Ln in the 4th ward. Unfortunately instead of a will he put his house in trust for his family, which eliminated the need for a will. He apparently died in the 1860 time frame. Union Dale Cemetery has a John Forrester plot with an unidentified female Forrester. John was buried 1/22/1863 and the female 10/27/1862. I checked the newspapers for those times with nothing. There were 4 Forrester brothers lived there at the same time and all 4 had a son John<g>. I have 3 Johns unaccounted for, so it could be any of them. So, short of driving to Pgh to follow the land record, church records seems to be my only other choice. Depending the on the years, there were several "kinds" of presbyterian churches there. Before the Civil War there were 2 Reformed Presbyterian congregations, and one major Presbyterian congregation. The later was known as the Central Presbyterian Church @ Sandusky and Lacock. It had a big split during the Civil War and then eventually joined with the First Presbyterian Church, which was in Ward 2. There was also a big United Presbyterian congregation (Second U.P.)2 Sandusky and Stockton. By the late 19th century the reformed congregations moved up from the "flod plain." If you are looking for a specific congrgation of size, I would think either the 2nd UP or the Central Pres. church would fit that bill. By the time Allegheny and Pgh merged there were almost 30 presbyterian churches of various persuasions, along with 3 seminaries, in Allegheny Cit y.! > > >> Date: Sun, 13 Feb 2011 15:35:51 -0500 >> From: lt0168@epix.net >> To: paallegh@rootsweb.com >> Subject: [ALL] Allegheny City 4th ward Presbyterian Churches >> >> Hi group: >> Can anyone tell me what Presbyterian Church somebody living in the 4th >> ward of Allegheny City might have used in the 1860 time frame? >> >> Larry >> -- >> My genealogy page >> http://twothompsongenealogies.com/ >> Allegheny County Maps page >> http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~lt0168/maps/ >> >> ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ >> >> Visit our Allegheny County, PA Website: http://www.rootsweb.com/~paallegh/ >> ------------------------------- >> To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to PAALLEGH-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > > ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ > > Visit our Allegheny County, PA Website: http://www.rootsweb.com/~paallegh/ > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to PAALLEGH-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > -- My genealogy page http://twothompsongenealogies.com/ Allegheny County Maps page http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~lt0168/maps/
