Hi, Bella. Thanks for trying to find information for me. I see the Knust you are talking about in New York in 1930. I don't think that is him. His full name is John G. J. Knust - no middle initial of "W". From the time he went into business, this family always lived overseas - Puerto Rico, Philippines, I think at one time they were in Genoa, Italy. I suspect the two kids are on their own because the mother, Effie, died. No clue where the father is. Information on them just kind of dries up. I did find death records for both the boys, Karl and Kenneth, so no one left to ask. Thank you so much for the census records for Betty and Karl. Betty may have married, I have yet to find anything on that. I am working on this for a Jones cousin (Effie maiden name) who has been so helpful and generous to me so I hope I can find something concrete to give them. Thanks so much. I will send the images to you offline. I only tried this search to see if it was true that one could get images other than the 48 States (pre-Alaska & Hawaii). Of course Puerto Rico is in the drop down menu for the States, and they were a possession or whatever then. I do have the International subscription, but I don't think this search is considered Int'l. There was no drop down menu item for Phillipines. And I've never seen or heard here or on any other list of USA census enumerations done in foreign countries. Maybe others on this list can contribute to that idea. What kind of importer was John? I saw a Knust in 1930 in NY that was an importer of auto mufflers, but name wasn't John. I'll go back and look again. Knust and his wife Effie May in the 1930 census. I believe they are in Puerto Rico or a more remote possibility is the Philippine Islands. John's occupation for most of his life was an importer. Their children, who I'm not sure still live with them, are Karl Barnes Knust, Kenneth Percy Knust, and Betty Louise Knust. In the 1930 census, John should be @ age 52; Effie should be @ age 49. In the 1920 census they are living in the Whitestone Section of Queens, New York City; however, during the 1920's they are listed (almost all family members) on ships' passenger lists from San Juan, Puerto Rico to NYC going back and forth to deposit the children, the boys, at boarding school in Connecticut. Any help would be appreciated.
