Greetings: Just wondering where Ohio St was in Allegheny City. My great grandfather, Otto Nungesser, indicated he lived @ 239 Ohio St 3rd and the minister from the German Evangelical Church was @ 337 Ohio St. Appreciate your thoughts. JR, As you well know, there is now an East and a West Ohio St. To find the answer to your question, go to Pitt's Historical site and examine the maps for the time period in question. Without looking, my guess is that it would be what we know as East Ohio St. as West Ohio St is only a few blocks long. In all probability the Ohio Street yo mention was in the eastern section of Allegheny, what we now call east Ohio Street. The street was the separation o f the 3rd and 4th wards of Allegheny. the "3rd" in the addres probably means thet he lived on the northside of East Ohio whaich was the 3rd ward. > From: jr@jjamieson.com > To: paallegh@rootsweb.com > Date: Sun, 20 Mar 2011 13:40:12 -0400 > Subject: [ALL] Location of Ohio St > > > Greetings: > > Just wondering where Ohio St was in Allegheny City. In looking a the maps in Hist. Pgh. as Al suggested it seems that the Nungasser home was in the block that was between East St. and Madison --- all leveled for I 279. The pastor lived on the site of his church -- The Voeghtly Church --"First German Evangelical Protestant Church of Allegheny" That site was alos leveled for the intersection of Rt 26 at the foot of Troy Hill Rd. and East Ohio Street, just east of Chestnut Street.
