    1. [ALL] Cult in early 1900's

    3. My great-grandparents, Leslie and Lizzie Johnson got a divorce in 1908. Part of the problem was her involvement with the brand new Pentecostal movement. I looked up Pentecostal in the google newspaper archives and found that the Pittsburgh papers called Pentecostals a "cult" Pittsburgh Press, Dec. 14, 1910, page 1. Another article calls them a "Queer Sect" Pittsburgh Press, June 16, 1907, page 3. Cult has a negative connation today. Does anyone know if it had the same negative connotations then? Looks like they didn't have much regard for the Pentecostals back then, so I suppose it did. Bill Johnson
