Cornelia: If Charles Clark was the Patent owner you can search for him under Patent Indexes at the following site; http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt?open=512&objID=3184&&SortOrder=100&level=4&parentCommID=3162&menuLevel=Level_4&mode=2 It's tedious, but not difficult. It should tell you if it was originally issued under a Virginia claim. If you wanted to research it further I believe the Va. records are now in Monongalia Co. W.V.
