Does anyone have ties to a the Giltrap (Gilltrap, Goldtrap, Gouldtrap, etc.) surname? I have found a William H. Giltrap and wife, Ellen, in the mid to late 19th century city directories. At one time they were living in the 17th ward (Lawrenceville area). I am on the trail to prove that my 3rd great-grandmother, Margaret Roy, wife of Robert, was a Gouldtrap before an 1846 marriage in Kilkeel,Down, Ireland. They also lived in the 17th ward. A related question: Where did families who attended the Church of Ireland before immigration worship in the 17th ward area? Was there a pulling away from the state church when the Scot-Irish immigrated? Thank in advance for any clues. Carol
Carol -- I have no family ties . . . if these were Irish Catholic's they may have worshipped at St. Joseph's in Bloomfield or St. Mary's in Lawrenceville. -- Norm carol battin wrote: > Does anyone have ties to a the Giltrap (Gilltrap, Goldtrap, Gouldtrap, etc.) > surname? Carol- I am guessing Episcopal as equivalent to Church of England. I know of no feud between Church of Ireland and Church of England. The same, just different countries. Carol, Early on some of my relatives who lived in the Lawrenceville area belonged to St. Augustine. Say about 1860-1880. Later they belong to St. Joseph in Bloomfield. I am not sure where Augustine was. More in toward the Northside I think HELEN in Pgh. Does anyone have ties to a the Giltrap (Gilltrap, Goldtrap, Gouldtrap, > etc.) > surname?
