    3. Larry, My husband tried setting up an automatic save, but a couple nights when I had insomnia, the computer was working. So now I do it manually even though I have to remember every now and then to set up the contraption. During the summer, I remember very well. We are also prone to lightning strikes. My daughter and I watched one hit the house out the kitchen window this summer. Thank goodness for the old lightning rods on the old house. I always unplug the computers and TVs every time a storm moves in. We lost a TV, computer, a microwave and a CD player a couple years ago. That was after the year that the substation got hit and the wires extending on either side of the road into the woods caught fire. You should try to find one the same size, or larger, as your built in drive. I picked up a 320gB Maxtor One Touch drive for about $80 two years ago. It can be set up to automatically back up your entire hard drive periodically. I set mine for weekly. Once my drive is backed up, I wait until I shut down the computer, I then disconnect the back up drive and unplug the power and usb connection, which prevents damage from a lightning strike. About once a week I plug it back in, at which time it notices it missed a backup and automatically does the latest backup. 3. Diane: That's what I like about the Maxtor One Touch. When you install it, it automatically sets up automatic backups. You only have to set up the frequency. A plus to disconnecting the backup drive when not in use, is it prevents a virus you pickup from infecting the remote drive.
