I am researching the following families (with a few highlights of each family): AGNEW (Hopewell Twp., Carrick, Oakmont). Robert Agnew settled in Moon Township around 1790. His grandson John Agnew 1819-1905 was a glass manufacturer (Brownsville Road in Carrick, Oakmont after 1870). CHAMBERS (Pittsburgh). also glass manufacturers on the South Side. Came to Pittsburgh from Ireland (probably County Armagh) in 1820. HUNTER (Verona, Oakmont, Pittsburgh). Thomas Armstrong Hunter emigrated from County Tyrone, N. Ireland, around 1850, was a nailer, settled in Verona around 1870 (Hunter Road). One of his sons, John Porter Hunter 1859-1914, was City Solicitor of Pittsburgh. PORTER (Stowe Twp, Pittsburgh, Oakmont) James Porter born Ireland, died about 1838 in Stowe Twp. Susan Buyer Potomac, MD http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~susanb/index.htm
Hi Susan, One of paternal great aunts married William W. AGNEW who I'm having a difficult time researching. Bella Laing Agnew, my great aunt, was born Jan. 3, 1876 at Hatfield St., Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co., Pa. and died Feb. 19, 1965 in Bell Co., Tx. Uncle Bill was William W. Agnew born Feb. 1869 in Pa. The source on that was the 1900 Ellsworth District, Tyler Co., West Virginia census. They moved around a lot as in 1910 census I found them living in Marietta, Washington Co., Ohio and by the 1930 census they were living in Dallas, Texas. He died before Aunt Bella but I don't have an exact date. They had 3 children, all deceased. Norman M. Agnew born June 26, 1895 and died July 1968 Tuscaloosa, Al. Juliett M. Agnew born Apr. 24, 1898 and died Dec. 1, 1988 Dallas, Tx. She was married to Frazer Nelson Blackwell William W. Agnew Jr. born 1902 in West Virginia and died Dec. 15, 1975 in Gainesville, Texas - He was a doctor and had lived in Temple, Texas in the 1960's. Are you familiar with this family?
