    3. I keep these 2 sites handy for more general German origin questions. Marybeth's sites are good but predominently eastern Germany. I have others but these are my short list. Obviously, familysearch by LDS is the best. This should give you some ideas: http://christoph.stoepel.net/geogen/en/Default.aspx You may want to try the telephone book. I switched it over to English version. I hope it sticks: http://www2.dastelefonbuch.de/english.html I doubt you will find your ancestors telephone listing but you might be able to get some idea where groups of the family is now. 3. I read somewhere (forget where) that LDS does not have records from Germany, if the family was Catholic. Is this correct? I was able to locate records at LDS for one line of my mothers family, in Germany, and they were Lutheran; but have not been able to locate ANYTHING for my mothers fathers family, Wagner - and thinking possbly they were Catholic and that is why I can't locate records. (my understanding was that the Catholic church has not given LDS permission to scan the records). thanks, Ruth
