Hello again. I guess my test worked this time :-) I live in the province of Alberta, in western Canada (land of ice and snow at the moment). Would anyone be willing to do a look-up for me to confirm the probable marriage of my maternal grandfather, Charles A. OGDEN. (b. 1871 in Arthur, Wellington County, Ontario, Canada) to his second wife (partner?), Della MacDONALD (b. abt 1882)? Marriage date probably during the 1913 - 15 period, probably in Allegheny County, PA. They had three children: Ethel M OGDEN b. abt. 1915; C. Allan OGDEN b. abt. 1916; and, Richard N. OGDEN b. abt 1919 His first wife was my maternal grandmother Robertina (aka Robena, Ruby, Rubena) WHITE, b. 17 January 1872 in Sydenham County, Ontario, Canada. Their marriage took place in 1893 in own Sound, Ontario, Canada. They had three children: Lawrence E. OGDEN b. July, 1897, probably in Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada, deceased 1905; Helen Margaret OGDEN (my Mother, m. M. H. PEARCE), b. 29 December 1899 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, PA; and, Marie Logue OGDEN (m. Charles McTAGGART), b. February 1907 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, PA. When my grandfather turned to drink & became abusive, probably after the death of his only son (at the time), my grandmother took the girls and went to live with her older sister, Sarah Ann WHITE (McLELLAN) who lived on a farm near Tarbolton, Manitoba, Canada (P.O. Roden; nearest village, Bradwardine). My grandmother declared she was a “widow” on the 1916 Manitoba Census. Well, probably Charles was dead to her! The sad part is that my mother and aunt never saw or, to my knowledge, ever heard from their father again. My mother did, however, keep in touch by letter with a couple of her paternal OGDEN aunts who lived in La Jolla, CA and, through them, she heard her father later had a second family of three children. I’ve been searching a long time for descendants of this second family (no, I don’t want to interfere with their lives, I’m just doing genealogy) and, so far, have hit many brick walls. Is anyone willing to help tear down some of the bricks? With many thanks in advance . . . Can someone please tell me where to look for the Western Pennsylvania Court Records for the second half of the 19th Century? I am specifically interested in bankruptcy cases. Thanks, 'Genie in WV (with weather reminiscent of my Bethel Park childhood)

Thank you Bob for all your work on this wonderful project. Years ago I tried to locate a newspaper obituary for Patrick T. Berry. Patrick T. Berry (1877-1917) married my Great Aunt Mary Ann Dougherty (Doherty) who was born in Ballyhillin, Malin Head, County Donegal. They were married in Swissvale on June 23, 1904. My Grandmother Catherine Dougherty Smith and Great Uncle Patrick Dougherty moved from Braddock to Anaconda, Montana. By about 1906 Great Aunt Mary Ann and Patrick also moved to Anaconda. Tragedy struck the young family and Patrick was killed in a train accident. Great Aunt Mary Ann Dougherty Berry took her husand's body by train in 1915 to bury him in Swissvale. He died on September 15, 1917. When I contacted the Carneige Library I was told the newspapers for that time weren't available. I checked all the cemeteries in the area of Swissvale, Rankin and Braddock without any luck. My cousin, Patrick's grandson has always hoped to find his grandfather's gravesite. Hopefully through your fantastic project Patrick's resting place might be uncovered. Since Great Aunt Mary Ann brought Patrick back for burial I assume he must have had Berry relatives still living in the area. All of my Great Aunt's family was either in Anaconda or Malin Head, County Donegal, although I believe there probably were some Dougherty cousins in the Braddock area. Thank you again for your dedication with this project. I have a similar question, being over-whelmed myself with boxes and notebooks of papers and information collected through the years. These "treasures" aren't of much help since everything isn't orderly enough to find quickly, or even remember where they are located! I often see too that one e-mail question can be asked and soon more are generated along the same line. Many people learn more readily from visual explanations, too. Those thoughtful replies usually get lost for some of us, as well! Is there any chance that among the seriously knowledgeble genealogists who use this site there could be some who would consider offering a class on this subject (organization! and maybe others) as well, at perhaps one or more local Library, offering a small stipend to be collected for gas expenses and time.) Organization is a matter of great importance and comes as just a suggestion from one who benefits from visual instructions! Thanks to the many helpful members who have provided great varieties of useful help throughout the year....and a Happy and Blessed New Year to all "descendants" working to preserve their family's personal history! Joseph: Anything up to folio size (11x17) I scan in two passes than stitch the two parts together in a graphic program. The original gets folded and placed in the binder. Larger than that the original is placed in a mailing tube and placed in the corner<g>. You can get larger sheets scanned for a small fee at Staples or Office Max and placed on a thumb drive. Sandy: I went paperless about 10 years ago. Purchased a cheap $50 scanner. I have a genealogy directory and under that a separate folder for each surname, one for maps, wills, will transcripts, obituaries and others. As soon as I get a new document it gets scanned and placed in an acid free clear folder and put into a 3 ring binder and never touched again. Hello all. Happy New Year. I have the feeling that my genealogy files need to be better organized so I am looking for ways that have and are working for others. Mine are in 2 file drawers. They are just in folders by family line and I have sorted by record - censuses, birth certs, death records, etc (but that breaks down when I get a new record because it tends to get files in the front of the folder). I am sure I have some duplications that I need to sort out and get rid of. It always takes me a minute to find anything so I am wondering if anyone has a better way. Thank you, Sandy

For those of you looking for marriage records for Allegheny County on familysearch: The records from about 1904 through the mid-1903s were not microfilmed by the LDS and are therefore NOT digitized on familysearch. FamilySearch doesn't explain that these records are not there. If you are looking for a marriage during those years, you'll have to contact the marriage license bureau in Pittsburgh for a search and a copy. Occasionally you'll see a record from 1905 or 1906, but if you examine carefully, you'll see that it's from another county and the indexing put it in the wrong county. Beverly, I was lucky also in getting my g grandfather's Civil War records after years of search. Spelling was wrong. And to anyone...how do you find a marriage record by a JP. I have tried various court houses in my vicinity with no luck. Wouldn't they be recorded the same way as with a minister or priest? And they definitely did not marry in the Catholic Church knowing my grandfather. -----Original Message----- From: suzanne m. johnston Sent: Thursday, January 02, 2014 8:54 PM To: paallegh@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ALL] Marriage records For those of you looking for marriage records for Allegheny County on familysearch: The records from about 1904 through the mid-1903s were not microfilmed by the LDS and are therefore NOT digitized on familysearch.
