Mary Fran Ormsby Ave. runs from Mt. Oliver and crosses the City of Pittsburgh line at Ottillia St. Between 1910 and 1920, the house numbers in the city section of that street were increased, usually by 100. You may check some of the other neighbors addresses between those 2 census' years for confirmation. There is Bronder at 303 then 403 and Scheirer at 423 then 529. I can guarantee that these folks NEVER moved. I once knew the reason for this change, but this memory escapes me. Hoffman or Hoffmann are common spellings. So either could be correct. I would like to read the death notice. Can you send the link, as I do not keep Bob's efforts. The death certificate would have an address, the funeral home may be able to help you if still in existence. Either the death certificate or the funeral home should be able to answer where he is buried. -----Original Message----- From: paallegh-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:paallegh-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of FredandMaryFran Powell Sent: Tuesday, March 04, 2014 2:26 PM To: paallegh@rootsweb.com Subject: [ALL] Fwd: George Hoffmann Date: Tue, Mar 4, 2014 at 8:24 AM Subject: George Hoffmann To: FredandMaryFran Powell <fredandmaryfran@gmail.com> This obituary was found in one of the newspapers Bob so generously gives of his time to index. Yes, my father bought his first car, 1932 Plymouth with one during WWII when we lived in Needles CA. My brother and I braved many trips across the dusty hot desert roads drinking Nehi Orange pop back there. I am not of that era, but your survey made me think of the old family photos of my uncles driving to Pittsburgh in the 1930s to see family there. My mother was jealous because she was too young to go and had to stay in St. Louis. Apparently the guys had quite a fun time without parents! My favorite vehicle was my grandparent's 1960s convertible, and I felt so privileged to sit between them on a ride to the lake. My grandmother loaned me a scarf as we drove listening to, "Itsy, Bitsy, Teenie, Weenie, Yellow Polka Dot Bikini" on the AM radio. She giggled like a shy schoolgirl at the words of that song! Pamela
I do. My father had one when I was little in Erie, PA. Hi group: Thanks for the replies to my little survey. I got more yeas than I expected.I myself only road in one once when I was about 6 years old, which would have been about 1949. I checked before I posted and the last rumble seats were made by Chevy in 1938 and Ford in 1939. Hey! I road in one once in Jamestown, NY. I was about 10 & went there to visit relatives with my grandmother. One of her Beckstrom nephews had one & took a couple of us little girls for a ride in the rumble seat. It was quite an adventure. I had never seen one before. -----Original Message----- From: paallegh-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:paallegh-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of JR Sent: Sunday, March 02, 2014 6:11 PM To: paallegh@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ALL] Rumble seat Larry, you have to be older than some of us. Larry, I remember it clearly; thought it was great fun and was most unhappy when the rumble seats were discontinued. Quite a walk down memory lane. Hi Larry, Yes, I remember riding in a rumble seat. I was probably 5 or 6 years old. We lived in Sheridan Borough and it was a neighbor's car. There were some other kids with me. Probably took place about 1943/1944. What a fabulous memory! ~Blessings, Bev in Calif. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Larry Thompson" <lt0168@epix.net> To: "Allegheny Mailing list" <paallegh@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, March 02, 2014 2:54 PM Subject: [ALL] Rumble seat > Hi group: > Just out of curiosity, I was wondering how many people remember riding > in a rumble seat? > > Larry > -- > My genealogy page > http://twothompsongenealogies.com/ > Allegheny County Maps page > http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~lt0168/maps/ > > ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ > > Visit our Allegheny County, PA Website: > http://www.pagenweb.org/~allegheny/index.htm > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > PAALLEGH-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message
Hi Mary Nice to see a message with your name attached. Haven't seen it for a while. I've been lurking on the various lists that I am on, haven't had the urge lately to do much of any thing for a few months, probably cabin fever and the results of an ice caused fall, no broken bones, landed on my left elbow driving it up into shoulder joint, just a fouled up left bicep and shoulder muscle. Still have restricted movement in the shoulder. How is Titan treating you? About noon the rain started here, the latest I've seen is 1 to 3 inches of snow; was 6+ yesterday. To keep myself occupied I've been spending my time trying to come up with a different way to display Ancestor Trees, I can't stand the software generated ones. I've gone from 3 generations in a 2 layer photo mat 8 x 10 and 8 1/2 x 11 formats, and layouts to print straight to photo paper; also 10 generations with pictures in 19 x 13 "bow tie" with off shoots format printed on photo paper. In January I bought a new wide format printer that allows me to print up to 13 inches wide by any length up to 44 inches, largest standard is 13 x 19. I have a Descendant Tree, of my design, that is about 8 feet long; took a lot of 8 1/2 x 11 paper to get that length, with the printer I might get away with 2 sheets. I placed this on scroll rods. I haven't tried to put the Descendant Tree on the 13 inch width yet, should be able to get another generation or two on there. We'll be back in the area this weekend for my sister-in-laws 80th birthday party. Staying in a motel in Homestead, they live in W. Mifflin, (Duquesne area) arrive Friday afternoon and leaving Sunday morning. My sister-in-law has been bugging me for a couple of years for the Dittman ancestry data, so, I've printed out the Ahnentafel of my brother, put it in a ring binder with the Ancestors pictures that I have; and made up a set of my new 19 x 13 Ancestor Charts to go with it. Waiting for the binders to put the prints in to arrive. I laid out these new charts using Excel, makes it real easy, at least now that I've done a mess of them.
Thank you Larry but that Andrew Young died in July 1986 in Mercer....mine is May of that year and should be in Pgh. I just went through all the May issues of the Post-Gazette that were available for that entire month with no luck...maybe the next step is to do all the Pgh Press....but I'm taking a break Thanx for trying to help Barbara
I only know that Andrew Young died in May of 1986.....that's from the SSDI. Haven't figured out a way to narrow down the search. I could start going through the known issues of the paper but might not amount to anything if there was no death notice submitted. Thanx for any ideas... Barbara

No, there's no subscription needed for GenForum. And there hasn't been a World Family Tree for several years. Ancestry bought GenForum to keep it running when it's owners couldn't afford it anymore and it remains free, just like RootsWeb. In addition, there are many free databases on Ancestry. You need to create a guest account but do not need a subscription to use them. http://www.searchforancestors.com/ancestryfreebies.html Clare, ListMistress
