Happy New Year list, My surnames are COYNE CONNOLLY (VARIOUS SPELLINGS) HENNIGAN (VARIOUS SPELLINGS) MURRAY WALKER MCDONALD All born in Ireland and immigrated around the late 1800's/early 1900's. ___________________________________________________ I'm also looking for info on Peter Shipe No, 1 (there are a few of them). He was born in Germany coming to the USA prior to 1852. Now this is where the mystery comes in. He is listed on the death certificate of his son Peter in Dec. 1929, but don't know what happened to him from the birth of his third child in 1856 until his wife Margaret Schweitzer-Shipe had her first child to John Miller in 1859. There was no divorce record at the Allegheny County Court House so we are assuming he died sometime during that period. His and Margaret's possible children were Peter, Margaret and Mary who were teenagers on 1870 Census report. Sharon Coyne
I had missed something along the way, and wondered what prompted the family names being included. Glad to read your comment about "great idea to do a roll call"! saw one that is CLOSE to my maiden name...SCANNELL.but my maiden name is SKINNELL, which originated in Bedford, VA. My Paternal Grandfather settled in Pittsburgh in early 1900's, first in Hill District on Dinwiddie ST, married Grandmother, a CULLEN from North Side, West End. HAMILTON (James?) another Pittsburgh name/ was a riverboat Captain. Mother's side is YODERS (with an "S" on the end) , KNESTRICK, AMES, MITCHELL, HENDERSON, all in Washington County. Maternal Grandfather, DAVID H. YODERS (Born in Washington CTY.)worked at Rockview Penitentiary, having been sent there because of "poisoning" from possibly working at gas wells? Is there a "Pump Station" PA? (area mentioned in some research and have wondered if that was where he became ill.). Returned to PGH (after getting better), with family, including my Mother, Gayle Virginia and sisters who grew up on MT Washington and worked at Western Penetentiary. -----Original Message----- From: Aimee Heinly Sent: Wednesday, January 05, 2011 10:59 PM To: paallegh@rootsweb.com Subject: [ALL] Roll Call (Aimee Matlack Heinly) Hi, great idea to do a roll call.... Hi Tomi and the rest of the list, I'm researching LEWIS, LANG, GORZOCH, MACHAJEWSKI, JACKOWSKI, MASKEW, HEINREIK. My LEWIS's and MASKEW's are from Pittsburgh's South Side (My Dad's side). My GORZOCH's seem to be from Lawrenceville, McKees Rocks area and the Machajewski's seem to have early roots from South Side and then the West End (My Mom's side). The LANG's and JACKOWSKI's are from the South Side area also (My Husband's side). There are 2 LANG different LANG families that live fairly near each other that as of yet we have not found to be related. My husband's family is from the Cheswick/Harmar/Springdale area for the most part. They arrived after 1900. Researching Grumski, Kapron, Oleniacz, Prohaska, Simoncic, and Solarska in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania Researching Ausdenmoore, Brady, Conley, Hummel, Kelly, Lafont, Louis, Lyons, Mulligan, Newmna, O'Connell, Waag, and Weddendorf in Cincinnati/Hamilton County, Ohio
George BEILSTEIN and his wife Elizabeth were born in Hesse Darmstadt and came to Pennsylvania before 1850. In 1860 they lived in Allegheny with 8 children. Their son Albert (b. 1852) married Elizabeth TISCHERT (sometimes spelled TACHART) and they had 7 children. Daughter Ella married Carl BERNTHALER, conductor of the Pittsburgh Festival Orchestra. These BEILSTEINs were likely related to the BEILSTEIN family involved in the Pittsburgh news sensation of 1898 (murder, suicide, escape from mental hospital). Carol B.
