By the way, are you aware that the Most Holy Name 60th Anniversary book is in the Allegheny Archives? 3. I didn't see a death notice for either name in the Pittsburgh Press . If you cannot find anything by using a name then leave it blank and just search for the date range. Or you can go here, http://news.google.com/newspapers#P and browse the papers. HTH Deb -----Original Message----- Hello: I am searching the deaths of two of my husbands uncles. The first is Charles Anthony Sperl d. 8 April,. 1918. My husbands say the family story is he fell under a moving train and his two legs were amputated. (Millvale PA) He was employed by the railroad. The second is another uncle, Joseph Edward Sperl d. 11 February , 1920. (Millvale PA) He is the brother of the above Charles. When I try to search the index all I get is the notice that the issues are unavailable. I would like to find the obits and I would like to know the procedure for reading these archived newspapers. I find it hard to believed that for two years the papers are unavailable. Claudia Sperl

    1. [ALL] photo - workers at Most Holy Name Church, Troy Hill
    2. Linda Braund
    3. My great grandfather, August Gartner, emigrated from Veitsteinbach and settled originally on Troy Hill, where he worked as a bricklayer/masonry contractor. I just recently came across a few old photos that were taken on some job sites from his masonry business. Only two of them have any identifed people, but if anyone is interested in those mentioned below and would like a copy, please let me know. Thanks, Linda Braund On the back of one, it is marked: The addition to Most Holy Name Church About 1893-94-95 - not sure >From Left to Right 1. Old Man Noll, bystander 2. George Reith, Carpenter contractor 3. August Gartner, bricklayer 4. Mr. Krenzer, the mortar man 5. Charlie Shad, Bricklayer [note from Linda Braund - this was my great grandfather's brother-in-law] 6. Old Man Auth, laborer All are all good real honest workmen. Brickwork was 90 ft high at beginning of spire The other photo that is identified on the back is not of good quality - three of the men are pretty much obliterated by the sun (I might possibly be able to clean it up a little in photoshop). On the back it says: 1309 Arch Street About 1909 or 1910 Poor Photography - sun too bright Bricklayers wages about 45 cents/hr >From Left to Right: Joe Gartner [note from Linda Braund - this was my grandfather] Ed Krab [might be "Kram" or "Krah" - difficult to read] August Gartner Tom Gartner [note from Linda Braund - this was my grandfather's brother] center: Cont. Besser front: Old Reliable [note from Linda Braund - this is an African American man standing in the front - must have been his nickname]

Does anyone have access to Ancestry.com census info? I'm looking for my step grandfather Thomas O Highley in both the 1920 and 1930 census. Thomas Highley married my grandmother Helen Meloney-Schonder about 1931 after my grandfather Louis Schonder drowned in the Allegheny river back in August 1917. It shows him in NJ and also in Allegheny, Pa 1930 United States Federal Census Name: Thomas O Highley Birth: abt 1902 Residence: 1930 - city, Gloucester, New Jersey 1920 United States Federal Census Name: Thomas O Highley Birth: abt 1902 - location Arrival: year Residence: 1920 - city, Allegheny, Pennsylvania Trying to find out the arrival year, parents, or any other family info like parents, siblings etc. ------------------------------ To contact the PAALLEGH list administrator, send an email to PAALLEGH-admin@rootsweb.com. 3. Glad to help. To print you will have to do a print screen then paste into paint or a similar program then edit out what you don't want. Or if you have win7 you can use the snipping tool. Deb

    3. Joan, I did a search on the word Theresa in all of 1915; came up with about a dozen items; none of which was a YODERS or anything like it. Wondering if between indexing, transcribing, posting, and other error opportunities, possibly the year may have been typo¹d or someone may have written her first name as Theresa is usually spelled. It¹s always possible it could have been in the paper as Teresa, or ??? I suggest you go back to the index and make sure. IF it¹s still the same date/year, I¹d probably try a span of 5 years on either side of 1915, trying YODER as well as YODERS; and Th- as well as T-. Good luck. 3. Thanks, Larry. I don't feel too bad now....I've had problems getting items in the past, most likely due to my not being used to....or understanding methods!
