I'm guessing they had problems in the past where people were requesting death certs for illegal reasons? They probably figure if you are legit then you won't mind giving them your license? JR, There was a James St. on the North Side that ran from Ohio [in the 23rd Ward] to Fountain [In the 25th Ward] There was also a James St. and Al. in the 11th Ward that was changed to JANERO when Pittsburgh annexed Allegheny City in 1902. Breedshill was in the 10th Ward [from Mathilda] & 11th Ward [to Fairmount] so Janero may be the one you are looking for. >From: "LIBBY GRIMM" <grimml@verizon.net> > I have a Division of Vital Records, 1400 W. Spring Garden St. Room 1009, Philadelphia, PA 19130-4090 of birth & death records for Philadelphia. You can get more information by going to the website on PA Vital Records. Just a heads-up to the marvelous Philadelphia early death records to be found on familysearch.org: Pennsylvania, Philadelphia City Death Certificates, 1803-1915 1,556,855 records! Pennsylvania, Philadelphia Marriage Indexes, 1885-1951 1,830,468 records! The indexes are searchable immediately, but if you'd like to see the actual image of the record, you will have to register (no cost!) and create a couple names for yourself and a password to access the actual image. For years we've had in family records: this receipt: "Bill/Invoice: Philadelphia, July 25, 1854, COFFINS READY MADE HEARSES AND CARRIAGES ALWAYS IN READINESS. J GIBBONS, PRINT. PHILAD Mr. Cornelius Richmond for Child: To Wm Stuard, Dr. // Undertaker, No. 364 Coates Street, between 9th and 10th. - For Walnut Coffin Lined flanel & use 1 Carriages to Saint George 4 00 Need Payment in Full Wm. Stuard" But we had -and could find- no other information on this probable child of my RICHMOND g-g-grandparents. When these Philadelphia Death Certificates came online, I found this record, on the image of a scrap of paper!.... I just discovered that today, through an obituary, that my ancestor was married by a Reverend CARR in 1839 in Allegheny County, PA (perhaps Pittsburgh). My ancestors were Mary McClelland and John Wilson. Both Mary and John were from Ireland and Mary was from County Tyrone. Does anyone know how to determine who Rev. Carr was? If marriage records are available from that time period, where is the best place to search? Thanks in advance, Rick Wilson New York, NY

Norm, I tried writing to Claire but her address is no good. I should know probably half of the guys and can check their photos with the 1970 yearbook but the photo is too small to be effective. Birth Certificates for PA. Butler County will be at New Castle, PA. Pennsylvanis Dept. Of Health. Division Of Vital Records, P O Box 1528, New Castle, PA 16103-1528 Fee was $4.00 for a birth certificate and a death certificate was $3.00 But, I believe the fees have been increased. New Castle, PA records started in 1906 to the present. Allegheny County, PA records stated in 1870 to 1905 and the address for that time frame is: County of Allegheny, City-County Building, 414 Grant Street, Pittsburgh, PA. 15219-2471 Phone 412-350-4180. Before you send any money, please call the office to check on price and I know it will be sometime before you get the certificate. I paid $19.00 for a service to get a death certificate from New Castle last month, and they had none on file. I got no refund, but I received the answer in 10 days. I have a Division of Vital Records, 1400 W. Spring Garden St. Room 1009, Philadelphia, PA 19130-4090 of birth & death records for Philadelphia. You can get more information by going to the website on PA Vital Records. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carol Neubert" <carolpn@suddenlink.net> To: <paallegh@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 10, 2011 5:51 PM Subject: [ALL] how to obtain PA birth/death certificates? > Hi! > My husband is from Pennsylvania. > His mom's family is from Philadelphia. > His dad's family is from Butler County. > Can anyone tell me the best, easiest, least expensive way > to obtain birth and/or death certificates for these two branches of the > family? > > Help most appreciated. > Thank you. > Carol > > ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ > > Visit our Allegheny County, PA Website: http://www.rootsweb.com/~paallegh/ > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > PAALLEGH-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
