    3. Rootsweb has a Switzerland list. LDS has microfilmed many records. https://familysearch.org/ has many. Many more are not yet available on line but can be used at LDS Family History Centers (now called FamilySearch centers). After you find out where your ancestor came from ... Church records from towns in canton Bern are available on CD. The US distributor is http://www.pictonpress.com/ I have the CDs for the towns of Diesse and Nods (French speaking). 3. Hi Jim- You will have better luck with protestant than Catholic Swiss records same as Germany in the LDS files. If Catholic I would make an inquiry with Pittsburgh RC Diocese. They may have an origin in their records. That worked for me. That would help your inquiry in Switzerland. As for Swiss researchers, I would start looking for a Swiss rootsweb mail list. Don't worry about language. They all know English embarrassingly well. I am quite certain someone would help you if not- the German list* GEN-DE@rootsweb.com* I use may work also. On the other hand my neighbor, born & raised near Davos Switz. did his entire tree in Salt Lake not back home. He told me it was a better collection here. 3. Although I am not related to the Ammons, I do know some lived in Columbiana County, Ohio. According to the HISTORY OF COLUMBIANA COUNTY, a Joshua and William lived in Hanover township. There was also a Elizabeth Ammons that married a Andrew Martin who emigrated from Pennsylvania around 1801 and settled in Middleton twp. Elizabeth Ammons and her parents came from Virginia to Columbiana Co. about the same time. Andrew and Elizabeth married in 1804 and had nine children. Hope this helps. 2. 1anniesquest4me
    3. Ran across the following article while indexing- anyone have any tips on where this depiction would be today? Pitt Gaz Nov 24, 1868 At a recent reunion of the survivors of the Old Third Division, First Corps, (Reynold;s), it was proposed to have a large painting representing the action of the Division at Gettysburg, July 1st, 1863. A sketch for this painting was prepared by Col. Bachelder, and will be on exhibition this (Tuesday) evening at the Union Depot Hotel in Pittsburgh. The object being to see whether this sketch is satisfactory to the members of the division and their friends, they are invited to call and examine it. General Rowley, Colonel Glenn, Major Slagle, Captain Dalgliesh, and other well known officers and men residing in or near Pittsburgh, who were members of this Division, will assist Colonel M'Farland, also a member of the Division, to explain the sketch. -- My interest in seeing the painting is that the aforementioned Col GLENN was my cousin and much was written on his efforts and that of his men in that fateful battle. annie
