My husband's German ancestry could not have advanced as it has without the kind folks on this list. The DIEGELMAN, HOFFMAN, KINTZ, PACK families have acquired more than just "bare bones" due to the help received from the listmembers. Trying to learn more about the POWELL folks of early Allegheny County has been made easier, again, by the knowledgeable folks of this group. Thanks to all! Mary Fran Powell

Larry and Jennifer, Thanks for the info. I'll need to check into those McFaddens. Unfortunately, I don't know exactly where the lived and when. Dennis fought in the Civil War in the Ohio First Heavy Artillery. Family stories say that he lived with his sister in Ohio when he immigrated. Her name may have been Margaret and it is possible she married a Ferry. Daniel Sample Only the infinity of the depths of a man's mind can really tell the story. Hi Virginia! I believe we used to correspond years ago regarding the McCurdy's. I'd have to dig out my researcher file to remember who your McCurdys were. Merry Christmas fellow researchers. My quest for ancestors began in 2000 when Mom asked me to find possible siblings. Since I lived 12 hrs. away, atrip to PGH was necessary. Not that I minded as my heart remains in PGH.I'd just purchased WebTV as it was easy to maneuver the net.In May of 2000 I journeyed to PGH for a 6 week stay. Taking the bus dailyto Carnegie Library where I spent the day reading microfilm, from there Igraduated to Allegheny County records....I am absolutely hooked on genealogy. Not only were secrets exposed; but I found a multitude of cousins, unknownto Mom. To this day, I keep weekly contact with all my much loved family of cousins. Thank you Clare and all the other contributors, too many to mention, who have helped fulfill Mom's wish. May you be blessed with good health and happy finds in 2014. Barb Hilderson
Family stories are sometimes gossip. My uncle showed his brother a pix of their father standing in front of the Robert Neel Log Cabin in Schenley Park and said that this Robert Neel was an ancestor of theirs. Maybe true but then maybe false. Robert Neill wrote his will Dec. 1, 1801 and he died in May 1804 (#132, Vol. 1, p. 189). The will names one son, John Neill and several daus. May 8, 1915 the Pittsburgh Bulletin printed a story written by J.M. Miller about an Indian attack. In the story Miller wrote that "Neal with the aid of his two sons, both under 16 years of age kept the savages away from the wagon by firing carefully through the loophole windows. Miller wrote that this tool place a few years prior to the Rev. War but no definite year. The 1790 Census only lists daus - no sons for Log Cabin Robert Neal. Does anyone know anything about Log Cabin Robert's 2 sons? Thanks for any suggestions. I have a lot of history on this cabin if anyone would like some. I'm researching McFadden, Neuland, Schildhauer in the PA, Ohio area. Only the infinity of the depths of a man's mind can really tell the story. ________________________________ From: Sue Lupinacci <smlupinacci@gmail.com> To: paallegh@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, December 19, 2013 3:26 PM Subject: [ALL] Merry Christmas to all! I remember WebTV! My own mother bought a computer and joined PeoplePC.com (I think that was the name...) at age 76. PeoplePC.com sold you the computer and then would come to the house to service it, as well as provide internet service. We'll be traveling through the snow storm to Missouri to be with our children and grandchildren for Christmas and New Year's Day. I'm dreading the cold...it's usually in the 60's here in Clovis, CA, during the day or dips down a bit but no ice or snow. I've made lots of progress on one of my in-law-childrens' lines and found out she is a Jamestown Settlement descendant. I'm so jealous!! LOL Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone. Hi group: I hope everyone on the list has a Happy and enjoyable holiday season and good luck in the coming year. I started in genealogy about 25 years ago. My brother was going through my deceased mothers papers and came upon 5 hand written pages of notes, 2 of which appeared to have come from a family bible. He sent me a copy of the sheets. That got my curiosity started and sent me on an obsession to fill in all of the blanks. A special thanks goes out to Bella whose help has been greatly appreciated.
