Joe, try this website. When you "enter" just use Bridgeville as a search term. There are 2 good hits that I found, but you can play around with it. Joseph and Listers: I found this link/site on "Mocavo.com", while searching for my Great-grandfather, Joseph E. STANIEK. [In the 1870-1880-1900 censuses he and several of his brothers worked on the railroad in Pittsburgh.] To add to the confusion I have an old photo, circa 1910, taken of Joseph wearing a mining hat, with the light atop it. He died in 1917 resulting from TB, and is buried in Calvary Cemetery, without a headstone in a single grave. His wife Nancy Jane/Jennie nee Wilmot Staniek died in 1897, burial unmarked in Allegheny Cemetery. Anyhow, I have tried to bring up this link, but the Mocavo.com site wants paid access, which I do not have. If anyone has access to this source and could do a lookup, I would greatly appreciate it. There is a link to it on Google books, but it is a browse search with many pages. Maybe your ancestor can be found in this source, Joseph. My guess is that these miners were recruited by the mine companies, as there are a lot of Eastern European names listed. Hope this is of some help. Joseph: I doubt very much that the miners did any recruiting overseas. Word of mouth from people already here writing home would get enough people immigrating that recruiting probably wasn't necessary. Thank you, Larry. The miners did not do the recruiting; the mine companies sent recruiters. I have names of those who were sent from the mines in the U.P. of Michigan, so I know that it was going on. My great grandfather worked in the coal mines in Federal and Burdine outside Bridgeville from 1892 to 1916. Would anyone know of research available of any of the local mines sending recruiters to European countries to recruit men to work in those mines? I would say it is and it isn't. I did it over 20 years ago. Did it twice with two different people in two different areas of Europe. They can give you what they find and some of the information was great, but often because of the wars etc there is no information to find or they can not get access to it. It was expensive then More expensive now. On the other hand sources have also improved greatly Helen in Pgh -----Original Message----- From: mikesmom958@aol.com Sent: Thursday, December 26, 2013 4:55 PM To: PAALLEGH@rootsweb.com Subject: [ALL] Professional genealogist Hello all! Hello Carol, Some years ago I had located the towns in Poland where my ancestors had come from. I hired two different researchers to find records for me at the church archives. They were successful in several cases and sent the records. That was probably 15 to 20 years ago, and their fee was $10 per hour. Things were much less expensive in Poland then. They have upgraded their fees today, but I no longer need records from Poland. In fact, the Family History Library in SLC had most of the Polish records I needed on microfilm. Recently I hired a researcher in D.C. to locate a record at NARA. His fee was $40 per hour, but I told him the record set and the name of the record I wanted, so he found it in one hour. Also hired a researcher in Carlisle, PA, to obtain digital photos of a book at the U.S. Army center there. Her fee was $45 per hour and it took her 2 hours, but having the book pages is priceless for my research. Hope that helps. Don and Listers: BOY did I goof! Nancy Wright was born abt. 1776, not 1876! The other dates are correct, either circa or known, as listed. If anyone has a WRIGHT family or connection in Cumberland or Franklin Cos., PA, or maybe even in Allegheny Co., sure would like to hear from you. Thanks. Mine were early 1800's. Sorry, but wish you lots of luck, like I need too. Thanks for answering my query tho.
