The marriage application may have more than the docket entry. Allegheny County did not ask all the good questions on the form till 1914. http://www.libraries.psu.edu/psul/digital/sanborn.html This address was provided recently that shows Sanborn maps of the Pgh area. I've tried to look up areas with lousy results and wondered if anyone else has had more luck. I'm interested in the Mt. Washington area - specifically the corner of Sweetbriar and Well. Is that area not included in this map collection or am I using the wrong search word? It doesn't seem to extend all the way to Stowe Twp/ McKees Rocks either. Maybe this site will be helpful to someone else - hope so. Barbara
On the right side pick INDEX of streets. There is a number after the street and this refers to the map to select. Dick Eastman reported today that access to the SSDI is now limited. Thanks for posting this, Joe. I took a look and it appears the law only effects FOIA reporting of deaths within 3 years of the current date. Hence the historic information present in the online copies of the SSDI dating earlier than December, 2010, are no problem. The primary effect will be on applications for social security card application forms for those who died in the past 3 years. The SSDI search on my site will remain: http://SSDI.DonsList.net Happy New Year. Marybeth, I have copies of many of the mine reports, what is the year of the book are you needing the look up from? If I have it, I can look up the names you mentioned, Charles Trimmel, William Bellhorn, Steve Matok, Joseph Staniek Marianne 5. The title is: "REPORT OF THE DEPARTMENT OF MINES OF PENNSYLVANIA, (VOLUME 1), PAGE 503." I did not realize that if I copied and pasted it from another site, such as Mocavo.com, it would not appear. Sorry for the error, and hope this is of some help to Joseph, or to anyone searching for ancestors who were miners. Marybeth acmbjc@aol.com ============================================================================ ====== Sent: Sat, Dec 28, 2013 12:57 pm Subject: Re: the MINES question and a link/site Joseph and Listers: I found this link/site on "Mocavo.com", while searching for my Great-grandfather, Joseph E. STANIEK. [In the 1870-1880-1900 censuses he and several of his brothers worked on the railroad in Pittsburgh.] To add to the confusion I have an old photo, circa 1910, taken of Joseph wearing a mining hat, with the light atop it. He died in 1917 resulting from TB, and is buried in Calvary Cemetery, without a headstone in a single grave. His wife Nancy Jane/Jennie nee Wilmot Staniek died in 1897, burial unmarked in Allegheny Cemetery. Anyhow, I have tried to bring up this link, but the Mocavo.com site wants paid access, which I do not have. If anyone has access to this source and could do a lookup, I would greatly appreciate it. There is a link to it on Google books, but it is a browse search with many pages. Maybe your ancestor can be found in this source, Joseph. My guess is that these miners were recruited by the mine companies, as there are a lot of Eastern European names listed. Hope this is of some help. Hope you find something. I have found in my research that many death notices/obit were only put in local papers that no longer exists. Try to find the newpaper that cover the area she lived in. Example. My ancestors lived in the Mt Oliver, Lower St Clair, Allentown, Knoxville part of Pittsburgh. Their death notice appeared in what was called THE HILLTOP RECORD only. They did not appear in the major downtown newpapers Helen in Pgh -------------------------------------------------- From: "Virginia Patricelli" <virgpat@usfamily.net> Sent: Monday, December 30, 2013 8:28 PM To: <paallegh@rootsweb.com> Subject: [ALL] Obit for Agnes McGrady July 1, 1873 > Does anyone know if there are any Pittsburgh newspaper archives for > obits that would cover July 1, 1873?
