To me this means he was born by 1779 and his father may have died and he was supporting the family. I'll go back farther in the taxes. The 1800 census shows Joseph in Mt Pleasant, a male 26-45, with 1 female 16-26 and 1 female 45 . I don't know who these ladies are. So Joseph born by 1775.
