Star Sentinel, Gettysburg, PA, January 29, 1880 DEATHS Mrs. Jane R. Smith was killed by the express train running over her on Saturday week, at Newport in Perry County. Her father, William Thompson, formerly resided near York Springs in this County. She had been spending time with relatives and friends for several months in York Springs, and had started for Snyder County last week. When she arrived in Newport, she got off the train, walking on the track towards the home of Mr. Mitchell, with whom she was planning to stay with for a few days. The express train came along, killing her instantly, with her head being crushed, one of her limbs broken, and her body mutilated. Anna Maria Albert died on January 20, 1880, at Hampton, at the age of 79 years, 9 months, and 20 days. She survived her husband by 27 years and 1 day. Samuel B. Baughman died on January 18, 1880, in Abbottstown, in his 56th year. Mahlon E. Beamer, the son of Samuel N. and Mary J. Beamer, died on January 26, 1880, near Wonksville, at the age of 3 years, 9 months, and 9 days. Maria Brown died on January 23, 1880, in Littlestown, at the age of 66 years, 3 months, and 14 days. Content Griest, the relict of Jacob Griest, late of Lathmore Twp., died on January 19, 1880, in York Springs, at the age of 74 years, 4 months, and 3 days. George Francis Hankey, the son of P. D. W. and Annie E. Hankey, died on January 24, 1880, at the age of 3 years, 5 months, and 24 days. Horace Zieber Hoke, the child of David Hoke, died on January 14, 1880, in Berwick Twp., at the age of 2 years, 4 months, and 10 days. Ollie Herr died on January 15, 1880, in Highland Twp., at the age of of 8 years and 6 months. Louisa Koehler, the wife of J. F. Koehler, died on January 4, 1880, in Abbottstown, at the age of 52 years, 22 months, and 4 days. Emanuel Little died on January 22, 1880, in Littlestown, of paralysis, at the age of 62 years, 7 months, and 10 days. Samuel McCreary, formerly of Gettysburg, died on January 28, 1880, at the home of his son-in-law, W. H. Shepler, in Hagerstown, MD, in his 81st year. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery on Saturday. Hetty Ann Miller, wife of Jacob Miller of Hamiltonban Twp, died on December 6, 1879, at the age of 43 years, 1 month, and 24 days. Elizabeth Newman, widow of Jacob Newman, died on January 15, 1880, in Hanover, at the age of 82 years, 8 months, and 4 days. Emma Grace Trostle, the youngest daughter of John and Lizzie Trostle, died on January 23, 1880, at the age of 2 years, 2 months, and 10 days.
