Gettysburg Compiler, January 9, 1900 DEATHS William B. HUMMER died at his home in Highland township, Jan. 6th, aged 59 years, 9 months and 3 days. Mr. HUMMER served in the Civil War, 1862 to 1865. He served as a private in Capt. Ebenezer MCGINLEY's company, Co. C, 165th Pa. Regt; was discharged at Gettysburg, July 28, 1863; re-enlisted as corporal of Capt. David B. GREENEWALT's company, Co. K, 87th Regt. Pa Vols.; discharged the 23rd day of June, 1865, at Philadelphia. Mrs. Eliza REBERT, widow of the late Charles REBERT, of East Berlin, died last week at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Peter HOOVER, in New Oxford, aged about 84 years. Death was due to dropsy, from which she had been a great sufferer. She is survived by three children. Edward TWOOMEY, who for many years has been employed as a Section boss by the H. J. and W. M. R. R. Cos., died at his residence in Straban township on Sunday last, after a protracted illness, from cancer of the stomach. I have the sad news to chronicle of the death of Mrs. Susan BUCHER, wife of Adam F. BUCHER, who died about 12 o'clock Saturday night last. Her remains will be buried at Flohr's burial ground on Tuesday morning. Mrs. BUCHER had been an invalid for many years. The cause of her death was bronchitis and dropsy. She leaves 3 sons, 1 daughter, and a husband. Her age was 60 years. She was a kind and christian woman, kind mother and wife, loved by all who knew her. Mrs. BUCHER's maiden name was SETTLE. Frank LAUCKS, a prominent business man of York, died last week from a stroke of paralysis. He was a director of the Drovers and Mechanics' National Bank and was one of the original founders of that institution. George V. MENTZEL, widely known as the founder of the Improved Order of Heptasophs, was discovered unconscious by his granddaughter, Veasy MENTZEL, yesterday morning a week between 9 and 10 o'clock, in an outhouse at his home, at Stewartstown, York county. Dr. J. R. Martin was summoned, but Mr. MENTZEL was dead by the time the doctor reached him. Squire BARTENSCHLAGER impaneled a jury and an inquest was held. Mr. MENTZEL's death was declared due to either apoplexy or heart disease. On Saturday morning last Mrs. Emma DUTTERA, of Littletown, aged 32 years, 1 month and 26 days, wife of C. E. DUTTERA, Esq., died from heart trouble and Bright's disease. Interment this Monday afternoon in Mt. Carmel cemetery. At the home of the bride, near Arendtsville, at 6 o'clock New Year's evening, a very pretty wedding took place, the contracting parties being Miss Grace M. MINTER and Dr. D. LeRoy MERRIMAN, of Arendtsville. To the strains of Mendelssohn's wedding march, played by Miss Sara MERRIMAN, sister of the groom, the bride and groom entered the room, preceded by Messrs. Harry RICE, Eliott LOWER, Curtin SHEELEY and Arthur RICE, ushers. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Samuel Sears MERRIMAN, of Trenton, N.J., assisted by Rev. D. T. KOSER, of Arendtsville. The bride was attired in white and the groom wore the conventional black. Immediately after the reception and dinner the happy couple came to their home in Arendtsville, where they gave a reception and musicale the following evening. A very quiet wedding took place at St. Anthony's church, near Mt. St. Mary's College, on Dec. 27th. The contracting parties were Miss Gertrude STONER, eldest daughter of J. C. STONER, a prominent citizen of Sylvan, Franklin Co., Pa., and J. S. FELIX, a merchant of Fairplay, Adams Co. There were no attendants. The ceremony was performed by Father J. B. MANLY. The happy couple will go to housekeeping in the new home the groom has prepared for his bride. MISCELLANEOUS Mrs. Dr. BILLHEIMER and son, Albert, who were visiting in York, have returned home. Mrs. Rev. Jacob ZIEGLER, mother of Mrs. BILLHEIMER, celebrated her 83d birthday on Jan. 2. Miss Mable ANNAN, who has been spending the past few weeks with her sister, Mrs. C. H. HUBER, has returned to Wilson College, Chambersburg. Mrs. LOHR and children, of Mahanoy City, Pa., are visiting Mrs. LOHR's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. ZINN. Mrs. Danner BUEHLER has returned from a visit to her mother in Foltz, Franklin county, Pa. Mrs. Harry J. SCHRIVER spent a few days last week in Lancaster, with her son Clarence. Miss Anna S. BRINKERHOFF is spending a few days with her sister, Mrs. W. C. STORRICK, prior to leaving for Philadelphia. Mr. and Mrs. NICHOLAS and Mrs. HENEBERGER, of Chambersburg, were here last Tuesday to attend the funeral of Mrs. Jacob LADY. The bottom dropped out of the PARR murder case at York on Friday when the defendant, Jacob PARR, was acquited of the charge of causing the death of his wife at Hanover.
