Hello Fellow Listers: This obit was just sent to the PA Blair Co. List: Miss Nellie Kate Blocher, retired professor of education, Hood College, Frederick, Maryland, and a sister of Mrs. Edmund L. Manges of Huntingdon died at the Frederick Memorial Hospital at 6:15 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, 1956, following a lengthy illness. Miss Blocher, a native of Gettysburg, was in her middle sixties and was a daughter of the late Frank D. and S. May Blocher. She received her bachelor of arts degree from Gettysburg College and her master's degree at Columbia University. She did advance graduate work at the University of Chicago and held an honorary degree from Gettysburg. Miss Blocher was on the staff at Hood for 27 years. She began teaching there in 1926 and retired in 1953. For a part of that time she served as acting chairman of the Department of Education. In addition to her sister, Mrs. Manges who is the wife of the Rev. E. L. Manges, she is survived by three nieces, Mrs. James Sexton, Columbus, Ohio; Miss Nellie Manges, Dean of Women at Cedar Crest college, Allentown; and Miss Frances May Manges, professor of history at Temple University, Philadelphia. Services and interment were in Gettysburg on Thursday.
