Hi Irene, I am curious as to how you pronounce your name. Growing up we had neighbors whose name was Tomsik. They pronounced it Tom sick. I think their ancestors were from eastern Europe, but not sure where. Hope you don't mind my asking. Wondered if you were part of the same family. Susan E in northern Indiana, USA

Adam Black was born January 31, 1763, married Polly Allegan(?)in 1787 and had children Elizabeth, Henry, Joseph, Adam, Alexander, Robert and Maria. Adam Black's father is said to be Henry Black. The census sheets for 1800 and 1810 show that an Adam Black lived in Cumberland Township in 1800, but was gone in 1810, as was an older Henry Black, probably his father. My ancester Lewis Snowden left Adams County and migrated to Bedford circa 1825. His oldest son Thomas and several daughters remained in Adams County. When researching at ACHS some years ago, I came across a file with information about son Thomas Snowden, who was put on trial for the murder of his father-in-law Solomon Chambers. Interesting reading. Thomas was acquitted because eyewitnesses placed him in a different location at the time of the murders--but other details (and the relation of the witnesses to Snowden) made me wonder what might have happened if modern forensic science had been available. But I digress. Below, I have compiled what information I have on Thomas. The baptismal record is the only evidence I currently have of my probable ancestor Cheden Snowden (first wife of Lewis). What is Cheden the equivalent of? I have not seen this name elsewhere. Also, I can't find Thomas on the 1840 Federal Census. Lastly, I am looking for a record that (1.) documents the births of the children given below and (2.) links together all of Thomas's children, including John A. whose children migrated to Texas and California. Thomas Snowden (son of Lewis Snowden) Conewago Chapel Roman Catholic Records: Thomas Snoden, of Louis & Cheden Snoden, born 1779 [sic], bp. 22 Nov 1821 Thomas Snowden, late of Straban tp. 1. Administration bond dated 1 Apr 1848, given by John Bercaw, William Graham, and Henry Noel, all of Adams County. 2. Administrator: John Bercaw 3. Inventory dated 22 Apr 1848. 4. Account filed 3 Feb 1849. 5. From account: $40 collected from the estate of Lewis Snowden, residing in Bedford County. Undocumented Internet information: 21.Mary Chambers (Mary Elizabeth Eckenrode4, Anna Barbara Kuhn3, Henry Kuhn2, John Kuhn1). She married Thomas Snowden. Children of Mary Chambers and Thomas Snowden are: 92 i. Mary Ann Snowden was born 5 MAY 1822 in Pennsylvania. 93 ii. William Snowden was born 12 SEP 1823 in Pennsylvania. 94 iii. Louis Snowden was born 26 FEB 1826 in Pennsylvania. Mt. Pleasant tp. (1793-1832) Lewis Snowden, shoemaker, 1793-1822, 2A (tax collector ’04) Jacob Snowden, 1801, freeman Thomas Snowden, 1811-1832, 2A (freeman ’11-15; 18A transferred from T. Snowden to John Shultz ’32) Jonathan Snowden, 1819-1822, freeman David Snowden, 1820-1822, freeman Thomas Snowden, 1817-1821, freeman (missing ’18; likely the same as the other T. Snowden) Poor Children: Mt. Pleasant tp. 1831: William Snowden, age 6; Mary Snowden, age 8 1832: William Snowden, age 7; Mary Snowden, age 5 1833: Mary Snowden, age 11; William Snowden, age 8; Lewis Snowden, age 6 (of Thomas Snowden) 1834: William Snowden, age 9; Lewis Snowden, age 6 (of Thomas Snowden) 1836: William Snowden, age 11; Lewis Snowden, age 9; Catharine Snowden, age 6 NOTE: There is a William Snowden of Carryall tp., Paulding County, Ohio, who matches well with Thomas Snowden’s son. There is a Louis Snowden & wife Matilda in Western PA on the 1850 and 1860 censuses that match the age for Thomas’s son. Further research is necessary. 1830 Federal Census: Mount Pleasant, Adams, Pennsylvania; Roll: 143; Page: 48. Thomas Snden, 0200001---/110001---- (male 40-50; female 30-40) --Projected family: 1.
