    3. Hi Blake, I don't have any information on the Stough family, but I am interested on what you have on Barbara Harman's family.  I think she is related to my Harman ancestors in Hunterstown.  I haven't been able to trace my Harman ancestors past Henry Harman whose birthday I don't know.  There are more than one Henry Harman in that area at that time. His son, William, was born in 1842.  He was married to Pollyana Englebert, b. 1850.  They had seven children:  Mary Elizabeth, Jerry, Henry Robert, Reuben, Margaret, John and Robert. Any info you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Good luck with your Stough family research. Susan Alexander Llauget My family coat of arms ties at the back.  Is that normal?

    1. [PAADAMS] Seeking info on Adam and Barbara Harman Stough family
    2. Blake M. Stough
    3. I am looking for information on the family of Adam and Barbara Harman Stough. Barbara was born in 1811 and died in 1889. She married Adam Stough (1811-1885), and they had the following children: Jonas - b. 20 June 1835 Caroline - b. 27 May 1837 Eliza - b. abt. 1839 Joesph - b. 20 Jan 1842 - d. 20 Dec. 1923 (married Lydia Miller) Louisa - b. 6 Oct 1844 - d. 28 Oct 1846 Edward - b. 13 Apr. 1845 (married Isadora Celinda Melinda Dixon and Ella Einsig) Hannah - b. abt. 1846 George - b. 16 May 1849 - d. 15 May 1850 Wilhelm - b. 17 Feb. 1850 - d. 20 Feb. 1850 Sarah - b. abt. 1852 Matilda - b. 6 Aug 1854 - d. before 1860 Adam and Barbara are located in Adams County census records but the family has ties to York County as well. They were located in the census as follows: 1840 - Menallen Twp., Adams County 1850 and 1860 - Reading Twp., Adams County 1870 - Straban Twp., Adams County 1880 - Reading Twp., Adams County I am primarily working to identify Adam's ancestry, which through poor children listed in tax records, we can determine his father was Jacob Stough. We are unsure which Jacob Stough his father may be, but know he was born between 1770 and 1780. We also feel his mother was named Mary, also born between 1770 and 1780. She is buried in Hampton Lutheran/Reformed Cemetery in Reading Twp., Adams County. Possibly through the family of Barbara Harman we can find out more on this family. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has come across the individuals listed. Blake M. Stough

    2. Lee Anne Center
    3. Hal, Someone else may have a better answer, but in case you want to check maps of PA for that time period, here is a URL: http://www.mapsofpa.com/antiquemaps27a.htm. Also scroll to the bottom of the page to see other 1700s time periods. Who are your Youngs? My John Smith's 1849 will names a John Smith who predeceased him and a Barbara Young, but does not give their relationship to him. They appear to be his children, as their names are interspersed in John's will with the names of four of his children. One theory of several is that Barbara and John (Jr.?) are children who may have done something to displease their Dad. John and his wife Katy Gooden were in Westmoreland County when he died. He leaves to Katy the money from her father's estate that Peter Waggoner of Adams County PA is holding for her. Charles Good is a canadidate father for Katy. His administration distributes parts of an unnamed child's full share to John Smith, Peter Waggoner, and Jacob Hartmann. Other children and some orphaned grandchildren are named. The first administrator John Arendt died. The second administrator was Thomas C. Miller. Lee Anne

    3. Thanks Mike for taking time to respond to my plea. I have seen some of the Digges citings but the Hist of PA is new to me. The part on Peter YOUNG is interesting but I can't yet tie it to the scant tree I have for him. I only have one sighting: BAPT: Adams County Church Records of the 18/th Century - Wright St John's Evan Lutheran Ch, Germany Twp (Littlestown area) Peter and Barbara Jung dau/ Elisabeth b/ 29 Oct 1763; bpt/ 25 Feb 1764, sp/ Elisabeth Schreiberin The wife Barbara I now have could well be the "Miss Burkhart" in Hist of PA, and the only ch I have [the above Eliz b 29 Oct 1763] could well be one of the "two other" ch in Hist of PA? I presume the bk does not give any dates within Peter's bio? Also, the "Streamers moved to Frederick City, Maryland" is also new to me. Best, Hal McCawley 4178 Pindar Way, Oceanside, CA 92056 1-760-941-4716 <HalMac@Cox.Net> ----- Original Message ----- From: M102146@aol.com To: halmac@cox.net Sent: Saturday, June 06, 2009 2:54 PM Subject: Re: [PAADAMS] Need Lookup in Digges' Choice 1724-1800 for David (Dewalt) YOUNG Hal, The information that I will give you comes from two books. 1. The History of Pennsylvania part 3 The History of Adams County, by Samuel P. Bates. 2. Digges' Choice 1724-1800, by Jan A. Bankert First, The History of Adams County. Peter Young settled in Union Township (in the Shorb neighborhood) Peter married a Miss Burkhardt, they had four children, Rachel, John, and two others ( don't know their names). Peter was a farmer as was John. John married a Miss Oyster and they had one son before she died. The son was named John Young Jr. John married for second time to Mrs. Catharine McSherry, a daughter of Mr. Little, the founder of Littlestown. John and Catharine had two children, Mrs. Sally(Young) Felty and Samuel. Samuel was born on Jan.18, 1818 in Union Township, Adams Co. PA. Samuel was a farmer and retired to Littlestown. Samuel was married twice, first to Margaret Hill who died the mother of nine children: William A.,Eliza J.,Mary C., Margaret., John A., Clara A., Sally, Charles S. and Laura. Samuel married for a second time to Miss. Cecillia C. Hill, sister to his first wife Margaret. Samuel was a member of the Reformed Church and politically he identified with the Republican party. Andrew Schreiber ( Schriver or Shriver ) came to what is now Adams County in the spring of 1733 along with his step-brother David Jung (Young). I don't know when but at some point in time the Schreibers' moved to Frederick City, Maryland. The Schreibers' and David Jung(Young) came to Philadelphia 1721 from Alstenbarn in the Electorate Palatine, Germany. David Young had land that was both in and out of Digges' Choice. Peter had land on Conewago Creek in Adams County. Second,Digges' Choice 1721-1800. It looks like David Young first bought land from John Digges in Nov. 15, 1749. He paid 30 pounds for 150 acres. He also bought 150 acres from Charles Carroll in 1750. David Young, a yeoman, sold 150 acres to Peter Young, a yeoman, in 1767 for 400 pounds. Some of this land was outside of Digges' Choice.David Young got a Warrant in 1744 for 100 acres and got a Patent for it in 1764 and sold that plus 133 acres to Peter Young for 36 pounds 4 shillings. David Young's Will was probated Aug. 16, 1773 and looks like Peter had not paid David the money for the land before Davids' death so Peter had buy it from his sibs. That's about it. You can buy the book, Digges' Choice 1724-1800 from Picton Press PO Box 250 Rockport, ME 04856-0250 or call 1-207-236-6565.
