    1. Re: [PAADAMS] George HAMBURG, early 1800s
    2. Hello Barbara, I'm sorry I don't have the info you are searching for, however I wonder if you can tell me if some of these people are connected to my research. Do you know if the John Hewitt who married Elizabeth Bender sold a farm known as "Hewitt's Mill" to Jesse Cook in Nov. 1838, that was located one mile north of the town of Bendersville in northern Adams Co., thereafter known as "Cook's Mill"? The several people with the Biggs name, are they connected to Basil Biggs, a "conductor" on the Underground Railroad in the area of Gettysburg and who was contracted to bury the dead after the battle there in July 1863? Thanks, Bob Cooke Simi Valley, Ca. --------------------------------------------------------- Message: 1 Date: Fri, 21 Aug 2009 22:39:56 -0000 From: "gc-gateway@rootsweb.com" <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> Subject: Re: [PAADAMS] George HAMBURG, early 1800s To: <PAADAMS-L@rootsweb.com> Message-ID: <1250894397.748821@rootsweb.com> Content-Type: text/plain; Hi, Sheridan: I'm doing research for Patricia Biggs Kelly who wishes to join the DAR under Jacob Bender of Adams Co, PA. Emma Kutschel Gwen Townsend m. Jose Leroy Biggs Patricia Biggs Kelly So you can see that Frederick Hamburg was in Adams Co long enough to marry Deborah Hewitt, and I too am curious about whether he was the son of George Hamburg and brother of Rebecca. A Jack Templeton was trying to find out more about George Hamburg, who had a daugter Rebecca that married Frederick Jones. A Deborah Mosemore answered that George Hamburg was her GG Grandfather b. 1788 who had a daughter possibly born in Shippensberg, PA. That town apparently straddles both Franklin County and Cumberland County, PA. I can't locate that thread now but I think I have their email addresses somewhere. Frederick and Deborah (Hewitt) Hamburg left Adams Co after their marriage in 1835 and moved to Uniontown, Carroll Co, MD and lived out their lives there. Frederick was a "Hatter" by occupation. They can be found on the 1840, 1850 and 1860 census for Carroll Co, MD, and in those census records he states that he was born in MD. He died in 1862 at Uniontown and she in 1897. She was on the 1870 census, if I recall, under Deborah Hamburg. Unknown where he's buried but she is buried at Uniontown. My emaiil address is barbtpalmer@yahoo. Please contact me offline as I'm curious about what information you have. I found a George "Hamburg" with a son that could be Frederick Hamburg on the 1830 census for Washington Township, Franklin Co, PA. I wonder if Shippensberg is in Washington Township. This census was about 10 years after Rebecca Hamburg and Frederick Hamburg were born. There was a George "Humberd" on the 1840 census for Carroll Co, MD, who had no sons of Frederick's age. There was a George Hamburg on the 1850 census for Adams County, PA age 61 and a George "Hambury" on the 1860 census for Adams County, age 71. I haven't viewed the 1850 census yet. The 1840 and 1830 census I saw on-line by asking for "1830 Census for Franklin Co, PA." Barbara Palmer San Diego Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [PAADAMS] Pay roll for Capt. Peter Ford's Company at Camp Security (81 names)
    2. Blake M. Stough
    3. This is a multi-list post, so I apologize to anyone receiving multiple copies. The following 81 men are being added to my Camp Security database, and served there under Captain Peter Ford, according to the pay roll for July 8th to September 8th, 1781. These names were transcribed by me exactly as they were written in the records, so these surnames may not match your records. Also listed is their rank and if I have a pension for that person. These men not only settled in York County, but some possibly in Adams County, and also other states. I would like to be contacted if you descend from any of these people, as I am also creating a descendant database. I am also seeking information on these men for biographies I am planning. Thank you very much for your time. Blake M.
