    3. Oh my gosh! You folks are incredible!  I think that you found my missing ancestors.  I do think that the Margaret listed ijn the sick hospital/poor house.  I don't know anything about a Matilda, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.  Margaret's age is close, so I think that you may have found her, Debra. And the Forest Gill (or Hill) listed could well be my g-grandfather.  Again, the age is off by two years, but the census often gets such things a little off. Yes, I would definitely like to have an image of that page, Deb. Wow, I sure didn't know that Forest was listed as a step-son of William.  I know that he was, but I had always heard that Forest said that William was his father.  William came to New York from England in 1861 and joined the Union army.  He was wounded at Pickett's/Pettigrew's charge.  After recovering, he joined the 17th PA Calvary and fought until the end of the war. Then, he came back to Adams County and married Margaret. Forest was born in 1856, so he couldn't be William's son. I copied your post, too, Joan, as it will remind me to look further outside the box.  I had been searching in Franklin County and didn't think of searching through York, too, not to mention looking for other family names with whom an ancestor might be listed.. Thanks so much for everyone's help. You people are super! Sue Message: 2 Date: Sat, 12 Sep 2009 13:17:15 -0400 From: "D. Above her is a Samuel Hill, age 76. There is also a Matilda Slonaker, age 25, and a Forrest E Gill (or possibly Hill), age 3. On the edge of the census it says "Sick Hospital Adams County Poor House". Do you think these are yours? In 1880, Forrest Thompson is listed as the step-son to William Thompson, so while he might have assumed his step-father's last name, in 1860 he probably was still using his birth father's last name. 2. Debra This is absolutely wonderful! Thank you! This is the right family. Peter Danner I did not know, but I did hear that there was an Ann Brady in the line as there was some reason to think she was related to the photographer Matthew Brady. This is a perfect fit. My Grandfather was Edward ( Edgar) b. 1885. I know also that we are related to the Kimmel Family--Jennie and Carrie Danner married Kimmel brothers who lived in Lemoyne. I appreciate this so much. Now, if I can get back beyond Peter, I will have traced the line back to Dieter. I know that he is correct, as his name and the name of the ship were found in my Grandfather's personal effects. I, too, have had no luck finding my g-grandfather, Forest Hall Thompson and his mother, Margaret Slonaker, in the Adams County census records. Margaret was born in Gettysburg in 1828 and Forest Hall was born in 1856 in Hunterstown. They appear in the 1870 census, but I cannot find them in the 1860 census in either Straban Township or Gettysburg. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what else to try? Thanks, Sue

    2. My ancestor, Dieter Danner, arrived in Philadelphia on the Robert and Alice in 1742. Evidently he settled in Pennsylvania. After that date, I have no information up to the time of my GrGrfather, Abraham Danner, who served in the Civil War. He married Rebecca Hess. Can anyone shed any light on earlier Danners? Lorna

    3. In 1860 in Gettysburg I find Margaret Slonaker listed, age 30. Let me know if you'd like me to send you the image. Deb Stanish Susan Alexander wrote: > I wonder if somethings are missing from the 1860 census. 3. I wonder if somethings are missing from the 1860 census. 1. [PAADAMS] 1860 Census Help - Berwick Township
    2. Sue Ashton
    3. Hello, I have googled to find this information and can't seem to find the answer. I have a family found in both the1850 and 1870 censuses as living in Berwick Township but can't seem to find them in the 1860 census. I don't have any reason to suspect that they have moved out of the area but am open to considering it. As a matter of fact, I put nothing else but Berwick, Pennsylvania in the search screen in ancestry and get no results. I've also searched using only the husband's first name, his birth year plus/minus two years and browsed through the 250 or so results and no one jumped out as being the correct family. With all this being said, my question ... is Berwick Township missing from the 1860 census? Or ... if someone wants a challenge maybe there will be better results. The family I'm searching is Calvin (1820 - 1898) and Margaret (1826 - 1904) CARNES. In 1860 the children that I know of are Calvin Nicholas (b 1844), John (b 1846), and Mary Jane (b 1859). I appreciate any help and suggestions. Regard, Suz Dearborn, MI USA

    3. Using HeritageQuest, we could find no one in Berwick Township in 1860 by putting in a common name and filtering on Berwick. Also could not find any in the LDS Census Pilot Project. It appears that Berwick Township is not listed for some reason. Thanks! Yes, I meant Miller. (I keep confusing him with another ggg grandfather in another line). Are the Gregory's in your line also? I seem to have hit a brick wall with Charlotte. One census indicates her parents were born in England but I'm not sure if this is accurate since the others say PA. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. June 18 1820 of Mt.Joy Twp when buried 28 May 1894 at Christ reformed Cem. in Union Twp. Charlotte married Solomon Miller not Peters. See 1850 Mt Pleasant census where Catherine is in Solomon Miller's home with Charlotte as his wife. They married Aug 15, 1844 as recorded by the Sentinel newspaper.
