I am trying to research FRANCIS INNIS and his wife MARGERY INNIS (maiden name MILLIKEN, source unknown) in PA Cumberland Co. in the 1750's. Does anyone know about their origin? Can anyone give info on the following people in the Manor of Maske, aka Marsh Creek Settlement?: JAMES INNIS settler/squatter/warrant holder in Manor of Maske in May 1740 JAMES INNIS, age 62, DOD 12/121766, buried at Black's Cemetery JEAN INNIS (on her tombstone her name is sometimes erroneously identified as JOHN) age 39, DOD 12/16/1760, buried at Black's Cemetery ROBERT INNIS, age 40, DOD 2/1/1762, buried at Black's Cemetery. In some histories his date of death is listed erroneously as 1763. Rupp's history identifes a ROBERT INNIS as one of the first settlers of the Tuscarora Valley in early 1740's. COLONEL JAMES INNIS, fought in the Indian wars in PA, having been sent there from VA. Are his ancestors and descendants known? Knut W. Barde

1. NEWS AND NOTES. 1a. Solving Problems with AOL AOL and RootsWeb's mail-delivery issues were resolved after amicable communication and work with the Internet Service Provider. RootsWeb thanks the postmaster group at AOL for its work with us on the various issues that were involved. AOL users are encouraged to re-check their subscriptions to mailing lists at PasswordCentral -- click on the PASSWORD tab at the top of the RootsWeb Home page: http://www.rootsweb.com/ Information and instructions for mailing lists can be found by clicking on MAILING LISTS tab at http://www.rootsweb.com/ 1b. AOLers and RootsWeb: New List and Some Tips Since AOL subscribers make up a large percentage of our mailing list members, RootsWeb has created a new mailing list that is being announced today. The mailing list is named AOLers-RootsWeb. It is to assist AOL users with questions related to their use of the RootsWeb mailing lists. Hopefully this new resource will help to forestall any future difficulties from arising between AOL and the RootsWeb mailing lists. The new list may also prove helpful to RootsWeb list administrators who are not AOL subscribers in answering questions for their list members who do use AOL. It will provide a place to direct AOL users where they can obtain accurate up-to-date information and assistance with RootsWeb mailing list issues that are specific and unique to AOL users. You will find this new mailing list categorized on the mailing list webpage at http://lists.rootsweb.com under OTHER/RootsWeb Support/ The direct link is: [This is a 2-line URL; copy and paste carefully]: http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/other/RootsWeb_Support/ AOLers-RootsWeb.html During the past week or so RootsWeb mailing list subscribers who use AOL (America Online) as their ISP (Internet Service Provider) to receive list mail experienced a disruption of service that lasted several days. Family history researchers, who are often addicted to their daily "fix" of mail from their favorite RootsWeb lists, began sending e-mails to their lists in an attempt to ascertain whether or not the lists were working, for some, alarm set in. Don't panic if RootsWeb's list mail doesn't appear to be reaching your mailbox as it normally should. Instead, do the following: 1. Check the HelpDesk's yellow announcement box for news of any technical problems at RootsWeb or with your ISP's delivery of list mail from RootsWeb. http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/ or click on HELP tab at the top of any RootsWeb page. 2. Check your currently subscribed lists here: http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ or click on the PASSWORDS tab at the top of any RootsWeb page. 3. Check the threaded mailing list archives to view the current month/year messages for your lists at: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ 4. Contact the list administrator for help or information by writing to: [email protected] (replace the word LISTNAME with the actual name of the list -- using no -L or -D). NOTE: If there is a general problem involving RootsWeb mail delivery to a specific ISP and the list administrator to whom you are writing also uses the same ISP, he/she probably will not receive your inquiry for the duration of the problem with that ISP. 5. Contact your ISP's tech support representative and explain that RootsWeb list mail is not spam and this is e-mail you wish to receive. Enlist the support of your ISP in resolving the matter. Internet Service Providers should be more than willing to assist you -- their paying customer -- so that you are able to receive the mail you want. Here is what NOT to do if you suspect you are not receiving your mailing list messages: 1. Do not send repeated messages to the list asking if the list is working or if anyone has received your message. 2. Do not send any "TESTING" messages to a list. Remember that just because you are not receiving a message you have sent to the list doesn't mean that other list subscribers are not seeing your repeated messages and becoming annoyed by them. The mailing lists are for genealogical research for a specific subject and not for test messages. Use the above guidelines instead to help resolve any non- receipt of mail problems. You will find guidelines concerning non-receipt of RootsWeb list mail in a recent issue of the RootsWeb Review. You might want to print out this information and save for handy reference. http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/review/20040107.txt -- http://www.CurtSanders.com

Donna, I also have that book. The problem is that I think Mr. Schildknect confused two different George Sponsellers (who happened to be 1st cousins) in his book "Monocacy and Catoctin". If I can find the birth date of the George who died in 1828, that will clear it up. Thanks. I need someone who is going to the ACHS to do a quick look-up for me. I am looking for the burial location and birth date for a George Sponseller who died, testate, 8 November 1828, probably in or near Littlestown. Different records have different George Sponsellers died on this date. Birth date will help determine the correct George. Thanks, Vanessa [email protected] My genealogy page: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~vstern/
Hello Curt & fellow listers, Curt, I just checked out the NEW Military Link, American Revolution, 1776-1784. There are some names listed for men joining Capt. Michael Doudel and Lt. Henry Miller. I have a few to add. These names are referenced from the 1844 testimony of the Revolutionary War pension file of John Platt of York/Adams Co. John was speaking of his service in the Revolution (from his memory) - so I understand if you do not want to add them to the list. John Platt says: " That company went alone from Littlestown Pa to near Boston where it was attached to a regiment under Col. Thompson. He recollects as members of said company: Isaac Sweeny *** Patrick Sullivan *** Samuel Reed Wm Rup---, John Ferguson Joseph McQuiston John Dunwoodie, (Dinwoodie) (too faint to read) Crawford Conrad Crunsbaugh, Joseph Platt, a brother, long since dead (in 1844) John Jones Joshua Meuscher John Meuscher" Please include John Platt on the list too. *** already on the list at our website In addition, a booklet titled "York County in the American Revolution" by John W. Heisey published by the Historical Society of York County adds a few more names. The Copyright for this book is 1971 and at that time, John W Heisey was Director of Research, the Historical Society of York County. Here are the names from the York Co HS booklet that are not on the list at our Adams Co site: John Clark Robert Graft on list as Groft John Griffith Joseph Halbut on list as Holbut Daniel Lelap on list as Lelop (Delop) Abraham Lewis on list as Alrom Lewis John McAlister on list as James McCalister Joshua Minsall William Russell Andrew Start on list as Stort (Stewart) Regards, Jane researching Platt in York/Adams Co 1747-1801

Hi Bill, I am not related to the King family, but from The 1886 History of Adams Co, I found: (synopsis) Maj. Robert Bell, born in Menallen Twp, Mar 5, 1830, son of James & Marth McIlhenny Bell, natives of this county and of Scotch-Irich descent. James Bell, the grandfather of Maj. Robert was non-commissioned officer in the Revolutionary War. James Bell Jr. (father of Maj Robert Bell) was born on the farm that Maj. Robert Bell now resides. James Jr was the father of 4 children, of whom Maj Robert Bell is the youngest. In 1853, Maj Bell married Abigail, daughter of Jacob King. Her grandfather, Hugh King and her great-grandfather VICTOR KING served in the French and Indian and Revolutionary wars. The Kings were of Scotch- Irish descent, and pioneers of the State of Pennsylvania. To the Major & wife, the following children were born: Fannie J. James F Nannie A Martha A W.W. Robert K Carrie K J Grant The parents are identified with the Presbyterian church. Hugh King was taxed in Tyrone Twp in 1801. Mrs Abigail King, wife of Hugh King of Tyrone, died Saturday, April 18, 1807 William Thomas King, Gettysburg, born in Champaign Co Ohio Aug 11, 1829, only son of John & Violet King (the Kings not related before marriage). Violet, a native of Pennsylvania. Three brothers named King, and ancestors of Mr William Thomas King on his mother's side, took up land and were among the first, if not the very first, settlers on Upper Conewago Creek, in what was afterwards known as "Conewago Settlement", long before the county was formed and as early as 1735 or 1738.
