    2. Don't know how close you are to Gettysburg, but if you are within travelling distance, you unfortunately just missed an opportunity on this subject at the Adams County Historical Society ( www.achs-pa.org ): Tuesday, May 4, 7:30 PM - Speaker: Timothy H. Smith; "The French and Indian War in Adams and Franklin Counties": Background will be given on the French and Indian War and the impact on the local area's early settlers. There were several raids into present day Adams County and several citizens were killed or taken prisoner by the French and Indian forces. Saturday, May 8, Bus Trip to long forgotten sites associated with the French & Indian War will include the area of Virginia Mills, the statue of Mary Jamison and a guided tour of Fort Loudon, Franklin County. Timothy H. Smith will be the guide.

    3. Hi, I have ancestors who settled in the southeast corner of the county and I'm wondering how the French & Indian War would have impacted them. How close to the fighting would they have been? It's of interest as my direct ancestor had his children during that period. It's hard to fathom how dangerous it was without throwing in the complication of childbirth. Neil

This is merely a legal matter authorizing the executor of the Will to pay for his funeral expenses. I've seen a fair amount of these in various Wills (even today!). It doesn't imply he wanted to buried elsewhere (otherwise he would say so). > From the map of the Manor of Maske I found on this site > http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Estates/3034/Manormap.html > It would seem that his property (plot #79 and 78C) was very close to the > Maryland border. > In those days would it be an option to take the body that far? Yes, it was possible, but they would have to pack the body in ice and sawdust which was hard to come by in those days and very expensive. If he authorized a lot of $$ for his funeral, this may be what he had in mind. Otherwise it's just conjecture. > His second marriage in 1790 was at Rock Creek Congregation but since it is no > more I don't know if they had a burial> ground. Hope this helps.
