    2. Hi List, I am seeking information about my ancestor Henry SHEETZ (or Sheets/Sheitz). He was born in Pa., probably around 1771. I am also interested in possible siblings and parents of his. I believe there were inhabitants of Adams Co. with the Sheetz surname in the late 18th and/or early 19th centuries, including at least one Henry. If any of you have details about the Sheetz family that you would share with me, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Tracking Henry's early life in Pa. 3. Knut, I find James Innis listed on Page 47, #332, (1) A-2 (the last two numbers refer to the map) of the "Manor of the Maske". Now, here's where it gets a little confusing. He is listed as the original owner of the property, in May 1740, also on the McPherson list in 1762, and on the Warrent for the property, which was dated 1785, 198 a. 120 p. John Hosack is listed as the recipient of the Penn agent or patent deed in 1785. It also says that this property is not shown on the large manor map. I have the book, but not the large map. Those warrants were long in coming, so James Innis may have sold the property or died before the warrant arrived. One of my ancestors, Henry Rowan is listed as the original settler on the land in 1739, but he didn't get his warrant until 1805. He died in 1807, at the age of 88. Another ancestor, Thomas Latta died in 1776, without a will, and his children were still messing with the estate in 1828. They got the warrent probably in 1797, if I read the records right. It's all confusing, but still very interesting. In answer to your question about whether the original settler is on the list-in some cases, yes, in others, no. Thomas Latta was not the original settler, but Henry Rowan was, in my case. Ellen Rowan Taylor -- ERT

    3. Dear Everyone, There is still time to make plans to attend the FREE "Unlocking Your Past 2005" Family History Event. The event opens next Wednesday, March 16th at 5:00 PM, and ends on Saturday, March 19th at 3:00 PM, but there is still time to plan your visit to this special event which comes just once every two years! There is no admission charge, no parking fees, no registration charge, in fact, no need to register at all. The event committee is even providing free light snacks to keep hungry event-goers from fainting due to lack of food! The only costs will be those incurred in transporting yourself and any companions to and from the event. Sorry, we don't offer free limousine service. If you're interested in Genealogy or Family History please come by and visit. If you either live-in, or have ancestors who came from, Franklin, Fulton or Adams Counties in Pennsylvania, or Washington County, Maryland, don't miss this event! 1. further re Manor of Maske Book
    2. Knut W. Barde
    3. The Internet shows that the quote below comes from the 1992 Weaner Book about the Manor of Maske. "On March 18, 1765, the governor directed, that a list be prepared of the holders of real estate, within what would be the eventual actual limits of the manor. In each case, they were asked to give the month and year of first settlement of the tract. In return, for allowing the surveying of the manor to proceed, the residents on tracts, settled before June 18, 1741, were promised, that they could purchase their land on the common terms. The names on the list, are in fact, those heads of families occupying particular manor tracts in the spring of 1765. In many cases, the first settlers, were one or more previous occupants, whose identities remain unknown. The Manor of Maske was surveyed January 17, to January 30, 1766. The settlers could now pursue in getting their land patents." There exists a list of "original settlers" of the manor of maske. However, based on the above statement, when a name appears on that list, perhaps with a date, is that the name of the occupant in 1765, and not the name of the occupant in 1736-1741, the original period of settlement? Has anyone else had to come to that conclusion as well? Knut

    3. Does anyone have the book listed below and is able to do a look up for any Innis, Innes, Ennis, or Ennis? At Black's cemetery there are gravemarkers for Jean Innis, Robert Innis, James Innis, possibly John Innis. I am trying to find out more about these people. I have a date for a warrant in James Innis's name, but nothing else. Is there enough info in the book to make it a worthwhile purchase for my interests? Knut The Manor of Maske - It's History and Individual Properties, Adams County Historical Society, Gettysburg, PA, Charles H. Glatfelter and Arthur Weaner, 1992, paperback, 74 pages. This volume details the history of the 43,500 acre manor, dating from 1741, and the acquisition summaries of some 333 original settlers. The Manor of Maske connected-draft survey map, a companion to the above book, 36 by 48 inches, Charles H. 3. According to "The Churches of Adams County PA" by Charles H. Gladfelter (1981) there is no Zion (or Mt. Zion) Lutheran Church in Idaville. There is the Idaville United Methodist Church, from about 1850, and the Idaville United Brethren in Christ Church, dating to about 1896. In "Cemeteries of Cumberland County:" by Bob Davidson (2000), there is a Mt. Zion Lutheran Church and adjacent cemetery in Goodyear, Cumberland County, built in 1868. Maybe someone else on the List can be of further help.
