The second William Kauffman (1910 Census) is indeed the "correct" one. Unfortunately, neither of the Sloat's in your listing was my grandfather (John) or great grandfather (Henry). The latter was living in West Earl Township, Lancaster County at the time of his death in 1907. The 1920 Census entry for John Sloat is interesting because of several coincidences, namely - wife's name (Emma), father's name (Henry), daughter (Grace - my grandparents had a daughter named Anna Grace). This however, is a different John Sloat. Incidentally, the "preferred" spelling of the surname was actually SCHLOTT. > < Also be aware that the name goes to Schlotthauer as well....We also descend from this family. Thanks! 3. Dear Don & Jeanine, During my early forays into the Sloat genealogical research, I located several Schlotthauer's in the early days of Lancaster County, PA and wondered whether or not there was a family connection. However, I never determined if and when there was a truncation of the surname to Schlott. Perhaps you can fill me in on this matter.
