Hi! The best thing I did was buy the book Guide to Research in York and Adams Counties, PA, by Robert Barnes. I read the whole book before I went to York County and I knew exactly what to look for. I estimate I saved hours and hours of work by getting this book. The Historical Society of York County is a treasure trove of information. The library is open Tues-Sat from 9-5. I went on a weekday and had plenty of help and space. You pay $4 (at least that was the charge in 2001) and they are very very helpful. The next day I went to the Adams County Historical Society in Gettysburg, right on the campus of Gettysburg College. Dr. Charles Glatfelter was there and was so helpful - he seemed to know everything that was in the library. It was open Wed 1-5 and Sat 9-5. Good hunting!! Warm wishes Diane Costello
