Got off the telephone (5-17-01, 4 p.m.) with Christen at the York County Archives office in East York. (717) 840-7222. They are open for any walk-ins and to the public, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. No reservations required. Since they are part of the local government, they DO NOT CHARGE for their services for looking up info for you. However, they do charge for copies. If you walk in and get a copy, it is 25 cents per page. If you email, or snail mail them, they charge $1.00 per copy page. They like to say they respond to email and snail mail within 24 hours. Again, however long it takes them to search for info, and how many requests one person makes, does not matter - they do not charge for this - only for copy services of pages of documents. Realize, however, they look up only those items that are at their location. Christen verified that EVERYTHING on their web page, they have at their location. They can and will look it up. So, if you ask them if they have a marriage for Joe Blow and Wendy Brown, they will search to see if they have it. They will actually search out what you ask about. I don't see how they feel they can have an answer for you in 24 hours -- but then again, I've never been there to see how "high tech" they may be, or how many employees they may have, or how many requests they get.
