Dear list: I am interested in the Ludwig Meyer listed below from York, PA. I have a Margaretha Myers who married Johann Weissinger on Aug 17, 1806 according to Church records at St. Michaels & Zion Church in Philadelphia. Unfortunately, this is all the information I have. Johann is most likely a descendent of the Johann Ludwig Wissinger family that settled in the Frederick Co. area in the 1750's. If you have any data on Margaretha and/or this family, I would very interested. Basil Williams Company, 1776/1777. A Ludwick Myers died before 28 September 1780 leaving a widow and equal shares to George, Pegie, an Elizabeth Myers. I have found two possible documented Ludwig Myers that may be possibilities: 1) Ludwick MYERS - born ca. 1756; Frederick, Maryland (note Washington County was part of Frederick County at this time)father - Yost; mother - Anna Maria 2) Ludwig MEYER - born ca. 3 Apr 1757; Kreutz Creek-Hellam, Adams or York, Pennsylvania - father Niclaus or Nicolaus; mother Margreth or Ann Margaretha He could also be an undocumented descenant of an early Myers of the area. Any thoughts or help in further solution to the identification of this individual would be greatly appreciated.
There are quite a few references to women named Margaretha, Margreth and Margretha Meyer, in YORK COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA CHURCH RECORDS OF THE 18TH CENTURY, VOL.3., by Bates and Wright; Ludwig and Margaretha Meyers spon. a bapt. at the Canadochly Union Church June 22, 1756...this church was at Lower Windsor twp. In 1774 &1776 Johannes and Margaretha Meyers were bap. spon. at Wolf's (St Paul's) Reform church Niclaus and Margretha Meyer had dau Anna Margrath bap 8-19-1753 and Ludwig 4-3-1757..these from the private records of Jacob Lischy...he was at St. Peters Reform church near spring Grove, North Codorus twp. also a Jacob and Margretha sponsored bap 1759 At Strayer's; Johan Jacob was the son of Jacob and Margretha Meyer, bapt 8-8-1753 and Jon. Heinrich bap 10-20-1767. So, there appears to be a good many different woman with the same time, around the same time......
