Hi Kaye, The York County Heritage Trust (and I) have copies of ALL the maps. George McCann is something of a mystery. I know he's there somewhere but my "official" PA records don't show him involved in the five-fold acquisition process. Some of the York County deeds may give a more complete picture, but to be clear - I do not show EVERY owner through the colonial period, only those involved in the official process. Hi, Debbie: I'm having some trouble locating the Charles Hoecke. What are his birth/death dates? Just in case a census taker misspelled the surname, how is it pronounced? Hoke, Hake, Hook, Heck...? I found an Emma Kerchoff in 1900 PA; I'll send you the page. I don't know if she's part of your line or not. I also found a James Kerchoff & family in 1900 PA; they have an adopted daughter named Florence. I'll send that one, too. I found 8 Shillow families in Lancaster PA 1900, but none with a daughter named Mary or Elizabeth who was born close to 1898. Heritage Quest Online does not have 1930 PA indexed yet... I'll send the 2 Kerchoff pages separately. Debra On Wednesday, Mar 31, 2004, at 21:10 US/Eastern, DnE330@aol.com wrote: > yes, these are my people. Hello Dr. Hivley: On the maps that you have, are they the same maps showing the shape of the land with the names of the people on them? I have one on John Griffith for Hopp Land that I got at the society. I have a slice of land for George McCann that borders Abraham Householder and John Walker and then other George McCann land. I have the survey of the sliver of land for George McCann dated in 1811. I would love to get the map showing the other George McCann land. Would you have that? These are all in Hopewell Township. I find that that this George McCann is married to Martha Griffith daughter of John Griffith and Martha Smith who is daughter of John Smith. John Smith's land borders Hopp Yard. I still have not figured where George McCann's land is. I want to order the book on Hopewell I think but want to know about the maps first. Thanks for your time. Kaye
Hi, Debbie: Regarding the Germany x 3: There are 3 columns on the census page--place of birth of this person/place of birth of father of this person/place of birth of mother of this person. So, if I noted "Germany x 3" all 3 columns had Germany noted. If I noted "PA/Germany x 2", then they were from PA and their parents were from Germany... I get my census information primarily from Heritage Quest Online. The Maryland Public Library system provides free access to those with a Maryland Public Library card. I'll send copies of the census pages. I'll do some more digging for you tomorrow and I'll let you know if I find anything. You're welcome. yes, these are my people. (HOECKE). this info. really does help me. What does the GermaNY X2 OR X3 mean?. I would really wouls like for you to send me the copies. I've been looking for abouy 3 yrs. for this info., and where did you find this? There was a (HECKERT) name to come into the family, and I can't find out how. My father was the son of Charles Hoecke, who married a Mary Elizabeth Shillo/Shillow. She was born inLancaster County 4/1898 with the birth name (KERCHOFF). The SHILLO family adopted her. unknown date. I loked up my father's birth inLancaster County and he was born a HECKERT, and all of a sudden he has the HOECKE name, when they came back to York, Pa. His name is Richard Franklin Hoecke, born 8/1922. There was ababy born named Elizabeth Heckert Marh 1925 and buried 6/1925. My father has a sister named Dorothy Hoecke,, so I don't know how the Heckert/Hoecke are connected. Thanks so much, and if you can find any more info. it would really help. Debbie Dne330@aol.com
Hi- Dr. Neal Hively writing. I have four listings for a John Miller in Hopewell Township, original PA Land Records, beginning in 1768: John shows up as owner of surveys (my index listings) 1075 in 1768, #1145 (in 1794), #1198 (in 1793), and 1267 (in 1809). The later three may be a second generation. Details of the land info are available in my book: The Hopewell Townships (Vol. 7), Original PA Land Records Series for York County, PA. There is also a set of "connected survey maps" which show how all of the original colonial surveys fit together and where those lands were located. See my website for more info: http://www.innernet.net/hively/paland My best, Dr. Neal O.
