Am looking for information, other than early census records, of the Headricks/Hedricks that lived in York County, Pennsylvania. I am particularly interested in Amanda Josephine Headrick/Hedrick. Any help would be appreciated. jo in kansas
Hi, Ned: I'm not sure, but possibly it is Hellam. The name has been changed to Hallam sometime in the past few decades. About 40 years ago, a friend who was researching her Snell ancestors in the vicinity of the town of Windsor in York County showed me the following mysterious line on page 725 of John Gibson's "History of York County". The paragraph describing Windsorville, in Windsor Township refers to a name that probably existed prior to the establishment of the first post office there in 1832. It reads: "We refrain from giving the original name of this apparently prosperous hamlet, or recording the legend from which it was obtained; if the name was practical it was not poetical, and we omit it." As a native of Windsor I am very curious to find the details of the early name and legend that John Gibson found it wise to omit. I have questioned numerous York County residents and historians without success. Is anyone aware of this story? I'd love to hear even your wild speculations. John Weichert substituted for Isaac King during the Civil War. He was drafted 23 Oct 1862, served 9 months, discharged 28 July 1863 at Harrisburg, PA. He was shot in the ankle, was discharged from Company C, PA Drafted Militia. He served in the Calvary. Can anyone help me learn what Regiment he served in so I can order his Civil War records and pension records? Thanks, Dorothy

On my earlier message, I made an error on the 1870 Walker Cook information. I noted that the census page said "Walker", but then said that it clearly said "Walter." Wrong...it clearly shows "Walker." Sorry for any confusion. Debra On Wednesday, Aug 11, 2004, at 07:30 US/Eastern, D.
