    2. Lancaster was the original county. York came from Lancaster and Adams came from York.

    1. York County Subjects
    2. To our list patrons, It has come to our attention that our York County lists have been drifting more and more into a general Pennsylvania list. May we point out that we have a Pennsylvania list and two Pennsylvania Dutch lists for doing this. In the future, please make sure that posts made to the York County lists have York County connections. So if you are posting such items as Lancaster County information, etc., please do so on the appropriate lists and not on the York County lists, unless there is a direct connection to York County. Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated. > < Thanks! 1. FamilyHart Database Updated
    2. The FamilyHart database was updated the day before Christmas adding another 9,000 new names online at the url found below. The total in the online database is now over 406,000 names. The majority of the information is for Pennsylvania Dutch families from Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia and North Carolina and points going west. _http://midatlantic.rootsweb.com/familyhart/_ (http://midatlantic.rootsweb.com/familyhart/) Much of the information is unverified information from other researchers. As we are able, we do try to "verify" information with census, church and other records. Each record has notes as to the source of the information. If you have additions and/or corrections, please feel free to send us an email. Please be advised that all names added are related by blood or marriage to our family. Also, dates and places for living individuals is withheld for those born after 1925. > < Thanks! 1. Obit index for probates for the 1700's?
    2. I have someone who I think may have died in York Co. in 1780. A reference indicates he died in a town in Adams Co., but as Adams was then a part of York, I believe this may be on file in the courthouse in York Co. I know that some of the early York Co. wills were placed on a CD of PA records, but my local library sold this CD about a year ago. (Of course it was sold without my knowledge!!) At the time I did check this out I was not aware of this particular connection. Richard

    2. Meg Wiley
    3. Hello, I'd like to ask for your help in my quest to find out more information about my gr.-gr.-grandfather, Adam Wiley. He was born in PA bet. 1849-1852 and married to Annie E. Baker (1854-1936), who was born in York Co., PA. Adam, a farmer, and Annie Wiley lived in Carroll Twp., York Co., PA (Dillsburg) for many years. They are buried in the Dillsburg Cemetery. Adam's tombstone says "1852-1912" but I'm not sure how accurate this is (his wife, Annie, is listed on the 1910 census by herself). Their eldest son, Clarence Augustus Wiley, was born in Rossville, Warrington Twp., York Co., PA in 1871. My difficulty has been in finding Adam's parents or other ancestors, because I'm not sure about his birth or death dates.* Does anybody have any information about Adam Wiley or the Wiley families in northern York Co., PA? I would so appreciate any information that anyone can share with me. Sincerely, Meg Wiley, Fayetteville, NC *Other notes: I found a Michael Wiley family in the 1850 U.S. census located in Warrington Twp., York Co., PA. It lists he and his wife, Leah, and two sons, Joseph (age 3) and Adam (age 2/12ths--the census is dated 16 Oct. 1850). There were other Wiley families, as well as Bentz families, who were neighbors (also farmers). I also have 2 newspaper clippings that were passed down in my family about Adam Wiley's death. Unfortunately, neither of them has a year on them, but they both mention Aug. 19 and that he was "about 60" years old. One clipping has Lancaster "Morning News" written on it, with the headline, "Killed by a Runaway Horse." The other clipping is titled "Dillsburg Farmer Killed in Runaway." Can someone suggest how I would go about finding these articles?)

    3. Thank you, this has been very helpful. My grandmother (Carolyn Louise Rhodes), I believe, was born around 1910 or 1911(I misfiled her obituary). I wonder if she's on the next census (1920). I know she born my mother quite young (to who, I'm not quite sure), but would have been at home in the next census. It's interesting in 1910 Alvin is Rohde instead of Rhodes (the way my mother spell her name). I wonder which spelling is correct (his parents). I also wonder where Alvin's parents lived. The spelling has something else to look into. Thanks again Thanks to anyone else that might have some thoughts. Bill -----Original Message----- From: D.
