I have a photograph of a woman whose identity I do not know. The photograph is stamped with the name of the town Wilkes-Barre on the reverse of the mount, which is presumably where it was taken. The photograph comes from my mother's side of the family, with grand-parental surnames of Perry and Crutchlow. The Perrys came from Nottingham where they were involved in the lace-making trade and there are probable connections to Calais, France in the mid-nineteenth century and maybe to France at an earleier time as the name Perry can be found in french baptismal records. However, I have nothing as such to pin down the connection to Pennsylvania. > > Thanking you for taking the trouble to read this, > > Dave Hirons > in a very wet and windy Coventry, > Warwickshire, England > > > ==== PA-YORK-GEN Mailing List ==== > Have you been to the Pennsylvania Roots Network at: > http://midatlantic.rootsweb.com/pa/ > > ============================== > Shop Ancestry - Everything you need to Discover, Preserve & Celebrate > your heritage! > http://shop.myfamily.com/ancestrycatalog > >

    3. I have the York Area Photographers booklet, which list W.C. Bell as having a studio at various addresses in York from 1889 thru 1942. It lists the timeframe for each address. If your photo has an address on the frame, I can look up the dates for you. There is also a list of publications with their prices at http://www.innernet.net/hively/SouthCentralPAGenealogicalSociety.htm Elaine >Dear Listers > >I have been assisted recently by one of the Assistant Librarians at >the York County Heritage Trust located in E Market Street, York, PA. >I have been seeking information on a photographer named W.C.Bell who >I understand to have been active in Pennsylvania in the late 19th >and early 20th Centuries. > >I have been told that there is a publication entitled "York Area >Photographers, 1840-1997" which is available through the South >Central Pennsylvania Genealogical Society. 1. [PAYork] KEMPERs in York Co.
    2. Vic Kemper
    3. I'm new on this list, so I don't know if the KEMPER surname has come up yet or not. I descend from the Lancaster Co, PA, KEMPER line which started there in 1738 with John Henry KEMPER. Can any of you tell me when and by whom the York Co KEMPER line(s) started? A year or so ago I wrote to a lady in York whose deceased husband was descended from KEMPERs whom she said were from Virginia, but she knew little about them. Help! Please fill me in on York Co KEMPERs. If they descend from Johan who came to Germanna, Virginia in 1714, then they are cousins to me. The PA and VA lines were started in America by KEMPER brothers.
