    1. [PAYork] Hopewell Pres. Church
    2. Sandra Ferguson
    3. My ancestors, Eleanor Beatty and George Baxter married, in 1794, at the Hopewell congregation of Robert Cathcart, minister of the Hopewell (Round Hill) Presbyterian Church. This was a Seceder's group, and supposedly had settled in the area in 1759 . Eleanor and George named one of their children for a member of the church......Andrew Finley Baxter...indicating close ties with this church. George Baxter was dead by 1805, leaving Eleanor to raise children Rosanna, Jno McDonald, Margaret, Susannah, Andrew Finley, Jane and Mary Laird. The following, the will of Andrew Finley, a familial tie to Eleanor, but I have been unable to determine exactly the relationship...in those days terms like uncle, etc were often used for family ties other that those of today....the will also indicates a close tie to the Hopewell Church, for in it Andrew mentions Michael Morrison and William Gemmill, both of whom are in the 1780s records of Hopepwll (Round Hill ) Church. 3. Listers, I am new to this list. I am searching the PARR surname in York and Adams counties. PARR(PFARR) Johan Jacob, originally from Gonnheim, the Palatinate, arrived with his family in Philadelphia, PA. on 19 Sep 1738 aboard the "Thistle". His wife was Catharina Elisabetha Bohler[Boehler]. He acquired land near Littlestown,[now Adams co, PA.] and had two sons: Jacob, Jn. and Johan Adam. Both created lines of Parrs resident in the area for generations. I am particularly interested in the whereabouts of Johan Jacob between his arrival in 1738 and his land purchase of 1749.

    3. Have you posted to the Oregon Trail-L list? Maybe somebody on there would know??? Doneva Shepard in Oregon -----Original Message----- From: Kathleen Myers [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, December 27, 2000 5:36 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [PAYork] William Myers Thank you all for replying to my query! Several of you had various possibilities for the William Myers in our family, and several of you had a William Myers in your own family that you weren't sure exactly what happened to him, so at this point we are not ruling any of them out. We are still hopeful however that one of these days we will somehow make a connection with someone who has it documented somewhere that their William also moved out West sometime before 1866, married a Cornelia Richardson, had 4 children: Edward Elmer, Mary E., Earnest and Marion. Then unfortunately, was scalped, killed and his remains burnt by the Indians at the "Battle of Silver Creek" on June 23, 1878 in Southern Oregon. His remains were covered over and left at the battle site, so there was no official grave. This battle was written up in newspapers all across the United States, however, because he was "just a volunteer scout" and not an actual soldier, the write up on him was sparse, with no mention of his family or where he was from. That is why I had hoped someone in York Co. might have heard of this tragedy in their own family lore! I will keep all of your replies, and if I am ever able to make a positive connection with you, I will let you know. Thanks again for checking! 3. Nancy, I know nothing of the Weavers other than a short note on the will of Conrad Weaver SR from Monaghan Twp, Adams Co, PA. Those listed in the will were son Conrad, daughters Salome Myers, Anna Kimmel and Elizabeth Kimmel. His wife was evidently dead by that time. I should try and get a copy of the will. Somewhere and I entered this before I started documenting he was shown with a wife Anna Margareta. I do not have any proof that I know of on that. I should check and see if I can get his will. His will was probated in Feb 1807. I would love to know more on this family. I believe this name was also Weber as a variation but am no expert on variations of the German names. 3. Thank you all for replying to my query! Kathleen

I do think there is supporting evidence of the fact that Johannes married Margaret Sherman. I'm not sure whether John moved to Cumberland County or not. I have his children listed as: Frederick born in 1776 Elisabeth born 1779 George born 10 Nov. 1780 Jacob--born 23 Sept. 1783 Margaret born 1791 John born 1793 (?) Margaret Catherine born 1796 Joan

    3. Joan, I agree with you on working with this particular family line. If it had not been for very helpful people I don't think I would have sorted mine out. Yes, that is Robert Myers work. I was not sure if I should supply his name but did not want to take credit for his work. It was in one of the two I read that about John's wife. I also have an article about Nicholas Sr that was in some book, I don't remember which one. I would have to look back into my records for that. Glynice

Pauline- Well, I still don't know the exact connection of my MYERS line to Nicholas, Sr., but I'm pretty sure this is the right line for me based on geography and other factors. Often you will hear the Palatinate referred to in a generic sense to represent the origin of just about all of the early PADutch immigrants. Out of curiosity -- which of the Nicholas MEYER/MYERS served in the Revolution? I was never quite sure if it was Nicholas, Sr. or Jr. Do you have anything in your notes about Jacob (born 23 Sept. 1783), son of Johannes (oldest child of Nicholas MEYER, Sr.)? Or about any other Jacob in the area born around the same time for that matter. I know my Jacob MEYER/MEYERS/MYERS was born around 1786 according to the age given on the 1850 census for New Oxford, Adams County. I find several Jacob MYERS born within a few years of this date but have not been able to isolate which Jacob is mine. Johannes' son Jacob may be about the most likely to be my Jacob. Joan

    2. Fellow Myers researchers, I am also seeking information on a William Myers. He married my great grandmother, Rachel Nace, after she divorced my great grandfather William Hake of Wrightsville/Lower Windsor area. Rachel and William Myers later had several children on of which I believe was a Charles Myers born after 1881. My Hake family came from the southern end of the county(since 1781) and are intermingled with the Diehl, Nace, Smeltzer, Rider, Eberley' families. Any help on these families are appreciated. Melissa
