    3. A George McCann was in the congregation of Round Hill Presbyterian Church, located in Hopewell.....the earliest record of him in the church is 1794....this was a Seceder's Presbyterian Sect, and the minister was the Rev. Cathcart - 1782-1800. There were the 2 births, Jno, bapt 1795 and George bapt. 1797...these both took place in the Hopewell Congregation. The birth dates are not given; only the baptism date. In his records, some are births 10-14 years before the baptisms, and others are of infants....so, there's no way of knowing...however, if the baptisms were years after the birth, why not have them both baptized at the same time...and, it appears that those delayed are specified...so, my best guess would be that these were infant baptisms.. My own family were in the Hopewell congregation, and were baptized as infants by Cathcart. 3. Don, Thank you again. Would you happen to know if the baptisms were infant or adult? It is common today for Presbyterians to baptise infants, with confirmation at about 12 years of age, but I'm not sure if that was the practice in the late 18th Century. These would appear to be adult children of George McCance (McKann) Sr. Pam ----- Original Message ----- From: don <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, March 14, 2001 9:55 PM Subject: [PAYorkGEN] Re:George McCance > Rev Robert Cathcart was a Presbyterian minister at York and Hopewell, > beginnng his ministry there in 1793. > > > ==== PA-YORK-GEN Mailing List ==== > This is the official list of the York County, Pennsylvania USGENWEB Project at: > http://www.rootsweb.com/~payork/ > > ============================== > Search over 900 million names at Ancestry.com! > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/rwlist1.asp >

I think they are ancestors of my husband, through his mother. I'll look tonight, then contact me since I'm not sure who is asking for what info. 3. The only thing similar I found in the Bates and Wright book is from Private Register of Rev. Robert Cathcart "George of George Mccann, born ----, baptised February 12, 1797" also "Jno. of Georg. McCann, born ----, baptised Mar 22, 1795" "Sarah of Geo. McCann, born ----, baptised Mar 31, 1799" Pamela Ingle wrote: > George McCance Jr. b. abt 1758, PA (probably York Co.) was the son of George > McCance Sr s/o David McCance/ s/o Andrew McCance of NY/Scotland. 3. The name, in any of it's spellings, does not appear in the 1806 tax list for Jefferson county, Ohio. The Jefferson co courthouse contains the following marriages for the surname; McCance, Jane m. Wm. Levingston 11-16-1809 " Manson m. Charlotte Henry 12-7-1809 I would suggest that you check the blue DAR indices, to see if anyone has joined the DAR with your ancestor as their Veteran.....if they have, then, using the information in the front of each index, write for a copy of the form this woman submitted with her documentation; it contains a list of all her proofs for each generation, and might be of great help to you. Also, I'd suggest that you write the NARA and obtain a copy of his military records....this is done on form #86, and will cost &17.00 if they find any...nothing if they don't. York co newspaper extracts show that an Arthur McCann lived in the county and was involved in a lawsuit in Sept. 1798. The only York Co will that contains the surname, any spelling, is; McCance, David 1782...located in Volume F pg. 5 Sandra -----Original Message----- From: Pamela Ingle <[email protected]> To: Sandra Ferguson <[email protected]>; [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Wednesday, March 14, 2001 7:54 AM Subject: George McCance b. abt 1758 >George McCance Jr. b. abt 1758, PA (probably York Co.) was the son of George >McCance Sr s/o David McCance/ s/o Andrew McCance of NY/Scotland. 3. George McCance Jr. b. abt 1758, PA (probably York Co.) was the son of George McCance Sr s/o David McCance/ s/o Andrew McCance of NY/Scotland. The name McCance has been recorded with variations in spelling including Mucance, McKans, etc. (it is thought to have orginated as Cancefield in UK). His father served in the Am. Rev as a Patriot from York Co. PA (according to another researcher). George Jr. moved onto what is now Ohio, and is found on the 1809 Census/tax list for Washington Co. /Jefferson Co. OH, where he purchased land from Malachi Jolly. By 1822, he and his unknown wife, are desceased, when records of a property settlement between his heirs in Jefferson Co. OH appear. I would appreciate any information on the McCance (or variant spelling) surname, in York Co. PA records. Thank you in advance, Pam Ingle

Also Georg Adam Stump sponsored a baptism at Sherman's (St. David's) Union Church on August 22, 1784. There are several births to George and Maria Elizabeth at that church also, in 1780's. 3. A Jacob Nonnenmacher and his wife served as sponsors at the baptism of Maria Ester, dau of Hoh; Jacob Kellser and Maria Ester...1-2-1763. This record is in the private pastoral records of Jacob Lischy. Jacob Adam Nonnemacher arrived in PA on August 28, 1750, aboard the shop[ Two Brothers, from Rotterdam. He was the only one of this surname on the passenger list. I can find nothing on the arrival of the other names you're interested in. There are no wills mentioning the name Nonnemacher before 1900. I did find, however, other spellings that you might want to keep in mind; Nonmaker and Nunacher are both possibles....here are some other spellings; Pennsylvania Wills, 1682-1834 York co October 5, 1798 August 16, 1802 Nunemacher, Jacob. Executor: Philip Wolfert. Manheim Township. Wife: Margaretta Nunemacher. Children: Jacob, Barbara m. Peter Baum, Gotleib, Christiana m. Michael Steffe, Philip, Catharine, Eve, Magdalena m.
