I have a different Samuel Burns who was born 12 Mar 1770 in Westmoreland County, PA, of Scots-Ir9ish parents. He had brothers James, John and William. Don -- Thank you! That certainly fits on dates, if Samuel was eldest. And he named one of his daughters Margaret, and at least one of his granddaughters was also Margaret. Thanks again, Nan
One record that might fit . St Mathews Luthern church. date not given but apparently between Aug 20 and September 8 1753. "William Burns with Marg. Wassons on a license from the Gov." Hello, list! I'm completely new to PA genealogy, so I'm hoping some of you kind folks will point me in the right direction(s). I'm looking for information on my gggg/grandfather Samuel Burns. He was born Sept. 17, 1754, in York Co., PA. This is from his Rev. War pension file. There is also an IGI listing on familysearch.org, giving same birthdate, and father's name William. By sometime in the 1770's, Samuel was in York Co., SC, where he spent the rest of his life. Whether he went there alone, or with some or all of his family, I don't know. He, his wife, and some descendants are buried in a Presbyterian churchyard. So my questions are these: (1) anyone else out there looking for Samuel? (2) where are the best places for me to start looking, either internet or by mail, for possible info? Are there tax lists? Church records? Thanks for any info/advice/etc. Nan Lambert
Letty, This book was published in 1886, so the more current info isn't available. What I did find was as follows: William and Lewis WAMBAUGH , and John and John H WANBAUGH in the Civil War. Catherine WANBAUGH married to Alexander LOUCKS 5 Feb 1867. She was daughter of John and Mary WANBAUGH. Further there are other references to the LOUCKS-WAMBAUGH connection. You may wish to see if any LOUCKS researchers have a WAM/WANBAUGH connection. Mary, History of York County, PA 1886, Gibson page 578. Hanover. "On the 14th of April 1838, the residents of York Street presented a petition to the town council, asking for better pavements. Consequently, May 5, 1838, the council passed an ordinance, decreeing that all lot-holders on York Street from Dr Hinkle's (now Metzgers corner) to John Kroh's property (fourth lot beyond the third alley)..." Hi: I have been seeing the flurry of look-up requests and could use some help if you can. You are all so wonderful to do this, I can't believe it. Could you look up: Albert William Wambaugh born June 25, 1872 in York He died Sept. 04, 1942. He was married to Clara A. Shultz on February 05, 1890 in York County. She was born August 12, 1872 and died Oct. 12, 1935. Albert is buried in Longstown Cemetery in York. He owned "A.W. Wambaugh, Cheap Cash Grocery" somewhere in York and they lived above the store. Albert is my husbands great grandfather and we have no information on his or her siblings, parents or ancestors. It is possible he is in the line of Georg Wanbach III (Nancy Bannister's line) and his father's name may have been Jacob R. Wambaugh - in Springgarden Township(?). My husband's grandfather was George Washington Wambaugh born in York on June 19, 1890. He married Ann Julia Hunt who was from Parkton, Maryland. George in his early years lived at 705 E. Prospect St., York. Thanks for any input or help. Your efforts are wonderful "random acts of kindness." Any info on the Wambaughs, Wanbachs or Shultz's is greatly appreciated. I am curious to whether anyone has come across the Groscost (Grosscost) family in any York County books as there should be birth and death records, as well as citizenship, christening and land ownership records. I would be interested in any names found. I appreciate any help at all. Thank you in advance. Bev Groscost

Ray, Thank you very much for the lookup. It was very gracious of you. I really enjoy the results of the other lookups you've done for the list. Thanks to kind persons like you, more of us get to learn about that fascinating and different time just 150 years ago in our familiar county! John

Darlene, It just has the bio-sketch of their father John N. LOGAN, born April 17, 1846. It also lists the following children James J LOGAN Jr (sic), Frederick Welty LOGAN, Helen Martha LOGAN, and Caroline E LOGAN. There is no mention of the children's marriage. If this is your guy, I'll send you the rest of the bio on John N. BUT, there are enough other references to these names in the history part of the book, that I suggest you do an interlibrary loan and have a first hand look. Let me know. "The Sunday-school of this church was organized in 1840, in a schoolhouse, about three-quarters of a mile west from the church....In 1857, it was removed to the church, where it has since been continued as a union school.
