    1. [PAYorkGEN] Baxter, M'Henry & Smith
    2. Sandra Ferguson
    3. My 4th great-grandfather was George Baxter, who married Elinor McEwen (McOwen, McCown) in the Hopewell congregation of Rev. Cathcart. George died intestate in 1805, leaving Elinor with 7 children under 10. I found, in a book of NEwspaper abstracts from York co, that, in Oct. of 1797, there was a letter in the post office at York for a Robert M'Henry, send in the care of George Baxter. Then, in 1798, there was another letter, this one to Robert Smith, care of George Baxter. I have absolutely no idea why George was getting mail for other people, but there must have been a connection, and I'd love to know if these were family members, employees, or what. Is anyone researching any of the above families. George's daughter, Roseanne Baxter married a Joseph Smith, in 1813, but if there was a tie to the Smith family before this date I don't know it.... Sandra

    1. [PAYorkGEN] FOCHT Surname
    2. I am searching for my g-grandfather's brother -- John "Henry" FOCHT b. 16 Jan 1846 in Lebanon Co PA who is said (per his sister's obit in 1901) to have lived in York Co PA around 1900. My g-grandfather changed his name to Howard FAUGHT around 1885 and lived for a number of years in the Harrisburg area of Dauphin Co PA. Two other sisters, Emma RAYMOND and Agnes BEARD also lived in Harrisburg. I wonder if Henry was living close to Harrisburg, but just across the river in York Co??? I really don't know if Henry kept the original FOCHT surname or perhaps changed his surname to FAUGHT also. Henry married Eliza M. SPATZ (b. ABT 1838 in Berks Co PA) and had 2 children that I know of: Kate FOCHT b. ABT 1860 and Harry FOCHT b. ABT 1867. I am hoping to find a distant cousin with more family records than I have. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Willing to share information. Robin in sunny Florida
