    3. James Smith DID leave descendants...2 children....and that was what I asked.....did he leave children? When dealing with genealogical research , or anything else for that matter, we need to say what we actually mean. If you meant "I've been told that James Smith left no grandchildren", then say so! Was that the generation when his line ended? If not, which generation? Facts are the important aspects of research, not "implications", which certainly leaves room for error. However, I replied: "I've been told that the James Smith you refer to left no descendants." Perhaps that could have been better worded to include the word *living* but my implication was clearly that no person living today was a descendant of this James Smith to anyone's knowledge. Joan

    3. You said that James Smith had no children; this is NOT the same thing as saying he had no descendants. James Smith had 2 children, living at the time of his death; whether they had children of their own I don't know......yet. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]>; <[email protected]>; <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, April 15, 2001 12:27 PM Subject: Re: [PAYorkGEN] James Smith > In a message dated 4/15/01 9:25:24 AM Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] > writes: > > > According to a bio from the History of York County, he had at least one > > child, James, for it says that Mr. Smith's tomb-stone was "erected by his > > son James, in the yard of the English Presbyterian Chruch at York. Sandra- Just because someone has a son living in 1806 doesn't mean that he has living descendants today. The source of my information was the head librarian at the time at the York County Historical Society who said James had been researched thoroughly and was not known to have ANY living descendants. 3. According to a bio from the History of York County, he had at least one child, James, for it says that Mr. Smith's tomb-stone was "erected by his son James, in the yard of the English Presbyterian Chruch at York. This bio is long on the "signer" and short on anyone else in the family, and the above reference was the only one I found on family members...so, if I were you I'd do some research myself on this family, rather that just take someone else's word for things; in this case, it appears as if someone has "told" you wrong. ( I've looked up his well, of 1806,and in it he leaves land, etc to his "son James Smith".....so, apparently my Joseph Smith isn't his son, but there sure was a James Smith.) 3. There is no will on record for John Lancaster, in Burks Co, through 1834......is there any particular reason why you're asking for help in York CO for a family from Burks Co? I'd think you'd have better luck querying on the Burks list, unless there is a particular tie-in with York County. > I am working on the line of John Lancaster/b 1757 Burks Co., PA and Rachel > Haskett./b 1775 SC.
