I only went by what my grandmother said after the fact. Their is so many ways the Hopej's who came to America while at Ellis island stated where they were from: Austria, Hungary, Zigiestow, Kluknava, etc. My main point is the Hopej surname spelling whether this was a typo at Ellis Island for in Slovakia there is the spelling of Hoppej of today. As my grandparents did not tell me anything about their family they left behind; or the other relatives who came to the U.S. Which makes it all the harder to find family members with this surname for its been nearly one hundred yrs since they moved to America. So theres many generations missing. Without the descendants of their lineage doing genealogy researching now I feel it very hard to make a family connection. I am trying to do my part in the postings and maybe someday when they want to know they will see these queries and learn from them and find our family.
