Hunter, Sr., 73, of 113 North Walnut Street, Ligonier, died Friday in the Latrobe Area Hospital. Mr. Hunter was well-known in the Ligonier area, having been manager of the Railway Express Agency in Ligonier for many years, until the office was closed in 1952. He was a member and elder of the Pioneer United Presbyterian Church in Ligonier and was president of the Ligonier Golden Age Club. He served as master of the Ligonier F. and A.M. Lodge No. 331 in 1940. He was a member of Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Derry; Coudersport Consistory; and the Syria Temple of Pittsburgh. He was a fifty-year member of the IOOF, Latrobe Lodge 541, and served on the Ligonier Valley School Board from 1936 to 1942. Born in Mechesneytown, October 18, 1898, he was a son of the late Thomas B. and Lettie Jane Reed Hunter. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dr. T. Bailey Hunter, and R. Emerson Hunter. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Geeting Hunter; four sons, David G. of Fayetteville, Tennessee; James W. Jr.; Thomas B., both of Ligonier and Joseph R. of Saltsburg; six grandsons; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Giesey of Derry and Mrs. Jane H. Igo of Latrobe; and a brother, John R., of Derry. Services were held by both the Ligonier Lodge 331, F. and A.M. and Latrobe Lodge IOOF No. 541 on Sunday evening at the Gordon O. Snyder Funeral Home in Ligonier. Funeral services were held in the colonial chapel of the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Monday, with the Rev. George H. Wright and the Rev. James T. Dennison officiating. Interment was in the Ligonier Valley Cemetery. ___________________________________________
