McDOWELL Irwin Garfield McDowell, one-time teacher in Ligonier, died Saturday in Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was 83. Mr. McDowell, who lived in Irwin had retired after teaching for 40 years, most recently in Forbes Road Junior High School. He was a native of Ligonier and the widower of Emma Burns McDowell who died in 1954. He was a member of Manor Methodist Church. Mr. McDowell is survived by two sons (Paul of Greensburg and Robert of Irwin) and two daughters (Mrs. Milton Slater of Irwin and Mrs. Margaret Penny of Monroeville). Rev. Robert L. Critchlow officiated at services in Vincent V. Rodgers Funeral Home, Irwin, and burial in Brush Creek Memorial Cemetery. ___________________________________________
